MANCHESTER, N.H. (July 15) - A New Hampshire man says he swiped his debit card at a gas station to buy a pack of cigarettes and was charged over $23 quadrillion dollars.
Josh Muszynski checked his account online a few hours later and saw the 17-digit number -- a stunning $23,148,855,308,184,500.
Muszynski says he spent two hours on the phone with Bank of America trying to sort out the string of numbers and the $15 overdraft fee.
The bank corrected the error the next day.
Bank of America tells WMUR-TV only the card issuer, Visa, could answer questions. Visa, in turn, referred questions to the bank.

Underground426 posted this: "A monkey must have been working the computer that day cause $23,148,855,308,184,500 is more than just a extra zero. And I find it so funny how it takes them 4 seconds to subtract money from your account, but DAYS to credit it back." My reply: My guess is that the pack of cigarettes cost $2.31, and the rest of the number is most of his credit card number. (I don't smoke so I have no idea if that's the right price for a pack of cigarettes or not). Anyway, regardless I suspect the clerk missed a keystroke to key in his credit card number, and keyed in both the price and the number under the listing for the price, then keyed in the CC number under the right entry. Or it could be the scanner made an error and scanned in both the price and the CC number. As for taking days, I read this article on another site a few days ago, and I think it took maybe 2 hours after he did discover the error, not days to correct. So obnoxious, and he did have to tell them he...

I guess that when Obama campaigned against "failed policies of the past" he wasn't thinking about the abysmal failure that was prohibition.

Back in the early 90's (when you could still make deposits at ATMS) I made a measley $75.00 deposit into my account and got my receipt. My balance was $999,999.99. I thought this had to be a printing mistake, and went to the next ATM I could find and checked my balance.... $999,999.99!!! "OMG" I thought and wondered what I should do. I went home, and didn't sleep all night and the next morning checked my balance again. $999,999.99! Sooo much went through my head.... like withdraw the money, should I tell, what should I do? Of course, in the end I called the bank and told of their mistake and all I got was a calendar and a travel mug. The mistake never appeared on my bank statement... I wish it would have so I had something to show about "that time I had a million dollars in my account".

My step father owns a gas station as well a grocery store, and a simular type error was made with a lady getting gas. it was not the cashiers fault or the ladies i was an error in the debit/credit machine. had something wrong with its chip. so it was replaced. i hope that gas station replaces or repairs the machine quickly.

underground426...... And I find it so funny how it takes them 4 seconds to subtract money from your account, but DAYS to credit it back.First of all, it said the bank credited it back the NEXT day which is not unreasonable, geez. They have to file a claim with the vendor and that takes time. I was a victim of identity theft and called as soon as I noticed and Bank of America was so great about crediting the money back to my account right away. This mistake, though, is insane. However, if cigarettes cost that much, we'd see the end of the tobacco industry!

where the government cracks down, an opportunity for a bootlegger is opened.. America wants the mexican government to get it's tax dollars... so buy your cigarettes from a pot dealer for $3 a pack... they have a mexican tax stamp, but it is the same camel, marlboro cigarettes you would buy in a store in America minus $3.50 of state and federal taxes... get your alcohol in the form of homemade wine, beer, whiskey... just never sell it or take it out of the house.. trust me... Obama and the democrats are only shorting themselves tax money... they should get out of the city more often and ake the time to meet people.. there is a lot more going on behind the scenes than these politicians think... crystal palace through and through
