(June 10) -- A police officer used a Taser on a 72-year-old woman during a traffic stop last month in Travis County, Texas -- and authorities said the move was justified.
The incident, which was videotaped by a dashboard camera, began when Kathryn Winkfein got pulled over for speeding on May 11. Deputy Constable Christopher Beize stopped the woman, according to The Austin American-Statesman, for going 60 mph in a 45 mph in a construction zone.

Citing a police report, the newspaper also said that Winkfein refused to sign a citation Beize issued her, telling the cop he was "going to have to take her to jail." Beize told her that she was going to be arrested for the refusal, at which point Winkfein got out of the vehicle and started to berate him, an arrest affidavit says.
The confrontation escalated, with Winkfein eventually getting Tasered by Beize.

"She was using language I wouldn't expect any woman to use, let alone a 72-year-old woman," Sgt. Maj. Gary Griffin told the newspaper. Griffin also said that Winkfein had pushed Beize into oncoming traffic.
After being checked out by an ambulance crew at the scene, the woman was taken to jail and charged with resisting arrest. Winkfein could face up to one year in jail and a hefty fine over the incident, the newspaper said.
