The latest in a shocking string of memoir bombshells: in his new book 'Open,' tennis star
Andre Agassi admits to using crystal meth regularly in the late 90s. "I can't speak to addiction, but a lot of people would say that if you're using anything as an escape, you have a problem," he tells
PEOPLE.
Agassi had to consider the feelings of his fans before writing the confessional book, but said, "I was worried for a moment, but not for long. ... I wore my heart on my sleeve and my emotions were always written on my face. I was actually excited about telling the world the whole story."
'
Open' deals with Agassi's drug use, but also delves into his hair loss, his difficult two-year marriage to
Brooke Shields, and his relationship with current wife
Steffi Graf. The autobiography is set to be released on November 9.
