Pike rallies No. 5 Cincinnati past Pitt 45-44


PITTSBURGH (AP) — Tony Pike's 29-yard touchdown pass to Armon Binns with 33 seconds left finished No. 5 Cincinnati's comeback from a 21-point deficit, and the Bearcats beat No. 14 Pittsburgh 45-44 on Saturday to secure a BCS berth and their second straight Big East title. The first de facto Big East championship game since the conference began playing football in 1991 was a high-scoring classic. Freshman Dion Lewis' three touchdowns and 194 yards rushing on 47 carries in a Tony Dorsett-like performance carried Pitt (9-3, 5-2) to leads of 31-10, 38-24 and 44-38, only to have the Mardy Gilyard-led Bearcats (12-0, 7-0) rally each time.

No. 5 Kentucky edges No. 10 North Carolina 68-66


LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — John Calipari's rebuilding project at Kentucky is ahead of schedule. Freshman star John Wall shook off a leg injury to finish with 16 points, including the clinching free throws with 4 seconds remaining, and the fifth-ranked Wildcats held off No. 10 North Carolina 68-66 on Saturday.

UC stunner keeps B'cats in national title race


ATLANTA (AP) — No. 5 Cincinnati kept its national championship hopes alive — at least for a few more hours. The Bearcats (12-0) pulled off a stunning rally to beat Pittsburgh 45-44 on championship Saturday and lock up the Big East title and a spot in the Bowl Championship Series.

Weis hopes next Notre Dame coach has more success


SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — Fired Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis says he hopes the coach who follows him will be more successful than he was. Weis spoke to the South Bend Tribune on Saturday and several other local media outlets that he invited.

Steve Williams has been Woods' caddie the last 10 years. He refused to discuss Woods' private life, although he said the golfer had confided in him.

Vonn wins 2nd straight World Cup downhill


LAKE LOUISE, Alberta (AP) — Lindsey Vonn won a World Cup downhill at Lake Louise for the second straight day, giving her seven victories on the course in six years. Saturday's victory marked the first time the 25-year-old Vonn has won back-to-back races in Lake Louise, which hosts two downhills per event, weather permitting.

BEAVER CREEK, Colo. (AP) — Carlo Janka is quickly establishing himself as someone to watch at the Vancouver Olympics. As for Bode Miller? For the first time in a while, he looked exactly like, well, Bode Miller.

Burke wins 1st biathlon sprint medal for US


OSTERSUND, Sweden (AP) — It's been a historic week for Tim Burke and the U.S. biathlon team. Burke became the first American to medal at the sprint distance Saturday, two days after he matched the best U.S. finish in any biathlon event with a silver in the 20-kilometer. It's the first time the Americans have been on the biathlon podium twice in one week.

Spain beats Czechs in doubles to win Davis Cup


BARCELONA, Spain (AP) — Spain won its second straight Davis Cup and showed that its tennis talent extends beyond Rafael Nadal. Feliciano Lopez and Fernando Verdasco beat Radek Stepanek and Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic 7-6 (7), 7-5, 6-2 on clay Saturday to give the Spaniards an unbeatable 3-0 lead in the best-of-five series. Spain captured its fourth title since 2000 and is the first repeat winner since Sweden 11 years ago.
