Woods expected to talk to police Sunday

WINDERMERE, Fla. (AP) — Tiger Woods and his wife, Elin, are expected to talk to police for the first time Sunday, breaking a two-day silence that has only fueled speculation about his early morning accident, why he left the house at that hour, where he was going and whether an argument preceded the crash. Florida Highway Patrol spokeswoman Sgt. Kim Montes said the 911 call — made by a neighbor, not Woods' wife, Elin — will be released Sunday, and troopers will return to Woods' house when they report for duty about 3 p.m.

Sixers coach downplays reports of Iverson comeback

SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Philadelphia 76ers coach Eddie Jordan says he hasn't talked to Allen Iverson about bringing the former franchise star out of retirement. Jordan downplayed reports Sunday of Iverson coming back to the Sixers, saying the speculation is "probably more in the media than it actually is." Jordan said he hasn't discussed Iverson with anyone and that the Sixers aren't seriously discussing any free agents.

Davydenko beats Del Potro to win ATP finals

LONDON (AP) — Nikolay Davydenko won the first big tournament of his career Sunday, running down just about every ball and using a consistent serve to beat U.S. Open champion Juan Martin del Potro 6-3, 6-4 to win the ATP World Tour Finals. Davydenko, coming off his semifinal victory over top-ranked Roger Federer, dominated his service games against Del Potro, losing only five points on serve in the first set and eight in the second.

Concussion expected to sideline Roethlisberger

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will miss Sunday night's game at Baltimore because of a concussion, an unforeseen development that forces the inexperienced Dennis Dixon to start one of the Super Bowl champions' biggest games this season. Dixon, the former Oregon star, has spent most of the season as the No. 3 quarterback running the Steelers' scout team during practice. He has thrown only one NFL pass in two seasons, but must play because both Roethlisberger and backup Charlie Batch were hurt during a 27-24 overtime loss to Kansas City last week.

Molinaris give Italy first World Cup title

SHENZHEN, China (AP) — Francesco and Edoardo Molinari became the first brother combination to win the World Cup of Golf, giving Italy its first title in the team event with a one-stroke victory over Sweden and Ireland on Sunday. The Molinaris closed with a 4-under 68 in the alternate-shot final round on Mission Hills' Olazabal Course. They finished at 29 under and earned $875,000 each in the tournament that featured two rounds of better ball and two of alternate shot.

Blatter: Not Henry's duty to tell ref of handball

PARIS (AP) — FIFA president Sepp Blatter says it wasn't Thierry Henry's responsibility to tell the referee he handled the ball in the buildup to France's goal against Ireland in the World Cup playoff. Henry handled the ball in the lead-up to William Gallas' equalizer in a 1-1 draw at Stade de France on Nov. 18 that gave France a 2-1 aggregate win and a place at next year's World Cup at the expense of the Irish.

Louisville fires coach Steve Kragthorpe

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Louisville fired football coach Steve Kragthorpe after finishing the year at 4-8, the school's worst season in more than a decade. Athletic director Tom Jurich met with Kragthorpe Saturday morning, hours after the Cardinals finished the season with a 34-14 loss to Rutgers.

Notre Dame AD denies contacting potential coaches

STANFORD, Calif. (AP) — Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick said he has not contacted any coaches about a potential vacancy if Charlie Weis is fired after the season. "We haven't talked to anybody," Swarbrick said before the Fighting Irish played their regular season finale at Stanford on Saturday night.

Stanford beats Notre Dame in Weis' possible finale

STANFORD, Calif. (AP) — Toby Gerhart turned what could be Charlie Weis' final game as Notre Dame coach into his own Heisman Trophy infomercial. Gerhart ran for 205 yards and three scores, threw an 18-yard touchdown pass and scored the game-winning touchdown with 59 seconds left to help Stanford hand Weis and the Fighting Irish a fourth straight loss to end the regular season, 45-38 Saturday night. "There's a bunch of 22, 23-year-old young men right there finishing out their career losing the last four games," Weis said in a postgame radio interview. "They feel miserable and I feel miserable for them."
