Alleged Ft. Hood gunman may have 9/11 mosque link

FORT HOOD, Texas (AP) — A key U.S. senator said Sunday he would begin an investigation into whether the Army missed signs that the man accused of opening fire at Fort Hood had embraced an increasingly extremist view of Islamic ideology. Sen. Joe Lieberman's call for the investigation came as word surfaced that Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan apparently attended the same Virginia mosque as two Sept. 11 hijackers in 2001, at a time when a radical imam preached there. Whether Hasan, an Army psychiatrist, associated with the hijackers is something the FBI will probably look into, according to a law enforcement official who spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation is ongoing.

House health care overhaul faces Senate stone wall

WASHINGTON (AP) — The glow from a health care triumph faded quickly for President Barack Obama on Sunday as Democrats realized the bill they fought so hard to pass in the House has nowhere to go in the Senate. Speaking from the Rose Garden about 14 hours after the late Saturday vote, Obama urged senators to be like runners on a relay team and "take the baton and bring this effort to the finish line on behalf of the American people."

La. Gov. declares emergency ahead of Hurricane Ida

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Hurricane Ida, the first Atlantic hurricane to target the United States this year, plodded Sunday toward the Gulf Coast with 105 mph winds, bringing the threat of flooding and storm surges. A hurricane watch extended over more than 200 miles of coastline across southeastern Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and the Florida Panhandle. Louisiana's governor declared a state of emergency.

Iraq electoral law passes, sets up national vote

BAGHDAD (AP) — Iraq's parliament ended weeks of debate Sunday and passed a long-delayed law paving the way for the planned January election to go forward, sidestepping a crisis that could have delayed the U.S. troop withdrawal. The decision appeared to resolve a key sticking point — who will be allowed to vote in the disputed, oil-rich city of Kirkuk. The issue had threatened to delay Iraq's key parliamentary elections, which in turn would affect how quickly American combat forces could leave the country.

Karzai vows to keep corrupt officials out of govt

KABUL (AP) — The embattled Afghan president pledged Sunday that there would be no place for corrupt officials in his new administration — a demand made by Washington and its international partners as they ponder sending more troops to confront the Taliban and shore up his government. Also Sunday, NATO reported three more coalition soldiers — one American and two Britons — died in combat with the Taliban in western and southern areas. The latest losses pushed Britain's combat death toll in the eight-year Afghan war to 201.

AP IMPACT: Framed for child porn — by a PC virus

Of all the sinister things that Internet viruses do, this might be the worst: They can make you an unsuspecting collector of child pornography. Heinous pictures and videos can be deposited on computers by viruses — the malicious programs better known for swiping your credit card numbers. In this twist, it's your reputation that's stolen.

Stock volatility is back, a sign of an aging bull?

Stock market volatility is back, a signal to some experts that the powerful rally that started in early March may be coming to an end. The Dow Jones industrial average rose or fell more than 100 points in seven of the past 12 trading days, capped by a 205-point advance on Thursday that left the index almost 53 percent higher than its closing level on March 9.

Carrey's 'Christmas Carol' wraps up $31M weekend

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Jim Carrey's Scrooge collected holiday donations from movie fans with his new take on "A Christmas Carol," which took in $31 million to open as the weekend's top movie. The Disney animated version of the Charles Dickens classic knocked the King of Pop out of the No. 1 spot as "Michael Jackson's This Is It" slipped to second place with $14 million, according to studio estimates Sunday.

Brazil student expelled after wearing mini-dress

SAO PAULO (AP) — A Brazilian university has expelled a woman who was heckled by hundreds of fellow students for wearing a short, pink dress to class — publicly accusing her Sunday of immorality. The private Bandeirante University in Sao Bernardo do Campo, outside Sao Paulo, said 20-year-old Geisy Arruda disrespected "ethical principles, academic dignity and morality."

Cowboys lead Eagles 7-0 after one quarter

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Tashard Choice scored on a 2-yard touchdown run off a direct snap, giving the Dallas Cowboys a 7-0 lead over the Philadelphia Eagles after one quarter Sunday night in the 100th meeting between the division rivals. Gerald Sensabaugh set up the Cowboys' scoring drive by intercepting Donovan McNabb on a well-thrown pass that bounced out of rookie receiver Jeremy Maclin's hands.

I may be niaive but there appears to be a lot of negative energy being wasted on saying that the health reform should fail. Why aren't you expending all of the negativty to make it work?I wonder why people are so afraid of change that they will condem the ones who need the help the most. Do you not see that there is something fundallmentally wrong in the system is being run now? To deny coverage and care to someone who is sick is morallly wrong. PLease rise above the pettiness of politics and please move forward and create real reform!!

"My brothers, seek counsel of one another, for therein lies the way out of error and futile repentance. The wisdom of the many is your shield against tyranny. For when we turn to one another for counsel we reduce the number of our enemies. He who does not seek advise is a fool. His folly blinds him to Truth and makes him evil, stubborn, and a danger to his fellow man." ~Kahlil Gibran of Lebanon~

There may not be many Doctors or health care workers left. Today Obama took over all student loans, there will be no private loans anymore. The bill passed along party lines again. Guess the federal goverment will now be telling you what fields you go into if you want a loan.

We have a seven headed beast: five plans from the Congress, one from the President, and one yet to come (the final bill). Each plan has many aspects. We must criticize the worst and encourage the best, just in case the final bill will be adopted. But if it is not, then we will have an opportunity to upgrade our current system in a more thoughtful stepwise fashion.

Wheres the post I just read where Obama said he pland to be president for a while. This is even more scary that tells me politics has nothing to do with we the people. They have their own plan in their club and that is the way it will be regardless of what any one else says.

McCain and McConnell you better go Faster, you finally got Pres Obama and his Weiners on the run, the GOP is so used to getting beat they do not know how to put the Libs away. But if you blow the lead on defeating Obamacare it is because you Old Farts are not listening to the people that put you in office and all Tax Payers are taking names and getting ready for the next election.
