Officer responding to Pa. home disturbance killed

PENN HILLS, Pa. (AP) — A police officer responding to a domestic disturbance was shot dead as he sat in his patrol car outside a suburban Pittsburgh home where another man had been killed, authorities said. Penn Hills Chief Howard Burton said officer Michael Crawshaw, 32, was the first to respond to a 911 call Sunday night in which only gunshots were heard.

Pearl Harbor survivor back for 1st time since war

PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii (AP) — Retired firefighter Ed Johann was a teenage apprentice seaman on Dec. 7, 1941, when he spotted Japanese planes coming in over Pearl Harbor. He thought they were U.S. aircraft conducting drills until explosions and flames erupted from stricken ships in the harbor.

Virgin Galactic to unveil commercial spaceship

LOS ANGELES (AP) — After five years of secret construction, the cloak is coming off a privately funded spacecraft designed to fly well-heeled tourists into space. The long-awaited glimpse of SpaceShipTwo, slated for rollout Monday in the Mojave Desert, could not come sooner for the scores of wannabe astronauts who have forked over part of their disposable income for the chance to float in zero gravity.

Ohio inmate to get 1-drug, slower execution

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Condemned killer Kenneth Biros could become the first person in the country put to death with a single dose of an intravenous anesthetic instead of the usual — and faster-acting — three-drug process if his execution proceeds Tuesday. The execution could propel other states to eventually consider the switch, which proponents say ends arguments over unnecessary suffering during injection. California and Tennessee previously considered then rejected the one-drug approach.

1 shot, another beaten in fight at Baltimore hotel

BALTIMORE (AP) — One man was shot in the face and another was severely beaten when a fight erupted early Sunday during a birthday party at a downtown Baltimore hotel, police said. A woman had rented two adjoining hotel rooms for a birthday party with about 20 young adults when a fight broke out between two 19-year-old men, Raymond Woodland and Marquis Johnson, police said. It's unclear what started the fight, Baltimore police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said.

Tiger's troubles widen his distance from blacks

Amid all the headlines generated by Tiger Woods' troubles — the puzzling car accident, the suggestions of marital turmoil and multiple mistresses — little attention has been given to the race of the women linked with the world's greatest golfer. Except in the black community. When three white women were said to be romantically involved with Woods in addition to his blonde, Swedish wife, blogs, airwaves and barbershops started humming, and Woods' already tenuous standing among many blacks took a beating.

Weezer singer hurt when bus skids off road in NY

GLEN, N.Y. (AP) — The lead singer of the alternative rock band Weezer suffered minor injuries when the group's tour bus hit some ice, skidded across the New York State Thruway, struck a guide rail and slid into a ditch, police said. Rivers Cuomo and the band's assistant, identified as Sarah Kim, were taken to a local hospital following the accident early Sunday morning in the upstate New York town of Glen, about 40 miles west of Albany. Kim also suffered minor injuries.

Men, horses killed in Ohio barn fire are mourned

LEBANON, Ohio (AP) — Stunned horse owners, trainers and stable hands visited the blackened site Sunday where a barn fire killed two workers and 43 horses at a harness-racing track in southwest Ohio. Warren County fairgrounds officials quickly hired excavators to pile up twisted metal and charred wood debris and remove the horses' bodies late in the aftermath of the early Saturday blaze that quickly consumed Barn No. 16 at Lebanon Raceway.

Palin's Iowa stop spurs talk of presidential run

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) — Former Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin greeted hundreds of admirers in Sioux City on Sunday, fueling speculation about a possible presidential run in 2012. Iowa's caucuses traditionally kick off the presidential nominating season, and Republican strategists saw the stop in Palin's national book-signing tour as a signal not to be missed.

Scientists, lawyers mull effects of home robots

PALO ALTO, Calif. (AP) — Eric Horvitz illustrates the potential dilemmas of living with robots by telling the story of how he once got stuck in an elevator at Stanford Hospital with a droid the size of a washing machine. "I remembered thinking, `Whoa, this is scary,' as it whirled around, almost knocking me down," the Microsoft researcher recalled. "Then, I thought, `What if I were a patient?' There could be big issues here."

Heres another situation about J.C. France. Preseason thunder 2004, I worked at the track then, the track is cold and had been for about 2 hours, I hear over the radio someone has gone out on the track doing "hot" laps in a white Caddilac Escalade, Security was on duty and also contacted the Daytona PD to help. It turned out that J.C was giving a ride around the track at over 100 mph with an un-identified female (some said she looked like a street girl) and (heres the character of this piece of waste) 2 children in the back seat in childseats! His statement to security was, " I own this track" Who in their right mind has the lack of brains and judgement and will put ANYONE at risk whenever he wants to! JC France. your a waste of blood and protien! Go disolve in jail, or even better, send him to Somalia!

NASCAR is the worst of the worst when it comes to GREED in American sports! The underdog will NEVER win a title again in this league. Its the Hendrick, Rousch, RCR racing league. Founder big Bill Sr. has rolled over in his grave 2 times already and France Jr. at least a dozen times, I should know, I hear it when they do. I live in Daytona where they are buried.
185 million $'s combined in operating costs each year for the 3 big teams in the Cup league, yet homeless all over our streets here in Daytona Beach. If I had it my way, I would have NASCAR EXECS locked up for fraud. Afterall, they are using 110 million $'s in tax breaks from Bush Jr., (always wondered why Presdent Bush went Lesa Kennedys house to visit after recieving a substantial donation to Bushs' Republican party in 2004), just so they can make their track "prettier". Yet ALL (not some) NASCAR EXECS drive brand new vehicles, As if they cant afford their own! The corporate GREED of America, congrats to NASCAR and to all those that support it, how does it feel to contribute to the downfall of American values! NASCAR your a form of entertainment, not a society of yours to make it as you wish, some people might take offense or might *********!

J.C. France, (LMAO)
Here is a son of the founding family of NASCAR , The France Family, working in the "most family orientated form of sport in human history" Bill sr. said back in 1988. J.C. France has NEVER worked a day in his life, if someone calls spending the families money for cocaine, travel, women and giving police officers a hard time ANY time he gets a chance; a job, well ok, he at least works hard at those things. I personally have spoken to this piece of sh*t. He is, without a doubt, the most narcistic, self- sensational person I have ever met. Yet he drives in the Grand Am league that Bill France Jr created back in 2002. Who let this guy out of his cage? Many people have known for a long time that he is known as a "player" locally, and it is no secret that he loves spending the families money. So what has he done? http://www.wftv.com/countybycounty/21242628/detail.html

lets see how strong your fans are and call out J.C. France and the Grand AM and prove to those greed eating, my underwear dont stink types, money wont buy you happiness and have J.C. France banned to never be seen behind a wheel of a sportscar EVER again! I know I wont be in the seats watching this sport with the risk of a cocaine addict killing himself and other on and off the track. I know I'll be the first to sign a petition!
GRAND AM, did you drug test this guy or does he have "carte blanche" being his league literally? Double standard I see. This is not the first time this guys been in trouble with the local authorities.
