ParkLf4 ..WRote:"... Just as man does not need religion to behave well he certainly does not need it to behave badly...." I dont agree. I have never heard of any atheist or scientists grabbing another scientist that held a different scientific theory in high regard, and burning them alive on a pile of wood for their 'scientific heresy'. But I have heard of millions of relgious people killing each other, and executing each other, over their incompatible religious beliefs. The pathological humans that commit atrocities due to mental illness, or a warped grasp of reality are few and far between, but entire nations in a religious furor will take up arms and murder and destroy on a global bases, thinking that "GoD iS oN OuR SiDe!!!!"

Religion actually gave the moral compass for people so they would behave and treat ea other with dignity and respect. i.e the Ten Commandments --------Which the religious conservatives seem to totally ignore. Religion is not necessary to provide a moral compass. All the atheists I know lead moral lives and many religious people lead extremely immoral lives. You are. however, right to question the dubious premise that 'religion poisons everything' That is just simplistic and plain wrong. Just as man does not need religion to behave well he certainly does not need it to behave badly.

Comp1188 wrote: parklf4--- Yes thats him. If you were a child born into hitlers germany you would have served in the youth also. He is a good man and doesnt not advocate violence as the Koran does.------------------ No it doesn't. At least no more than the Bible which is full of violence. You will doubtless cherry pick phrases from the Koran that seem to condone violence and I could do the same with the Bible. That would be a sterile exercise. What is more relevant is that far more Muslims have died at the hands of Christians than the other way round. More relevant still, in relation to this story, is that the Muslims in China are fighting a viciously repressive regime and deserve the support of decent people everywhere.

JXV605 wrote:>>>>>>>>>>stop the christian bashing, christianity had its violent past and no longer uses it to push its religion. The fight in Ireland has been between Irish rule vs British rule so its a bad example. Islam has for hundreds of yrs been trying to force its religion on the world ------No it hasn't. That is simply propaganda. The list of countries that you name have been Muslim for hundreds, if not thousands of years. Conflicts in those regions have nothing whatsoever to do with Islam being forced on people. How typical of a right wing Christian that you snivel and whine about 'christian bashing' and then go on to spew hatred and lies about Islam.

While human right's issues are legitimate discussion points the right of countries like to China and even Iran to take forceful action to address paralyzing and violent demonstrations is part of their responsibility of government. American commentary is pompous and self righteous. Who here would give a hoot about, for instance, Uruguay's criticism of how we are handling national issues.

Young Chinese couple get married. On the wedding night, the groom doesn't want the bride to think that he is inexperienced or unworldly so that night at the hotel, he showers, marches into the bedroom naked and proclaims: "My rove, anything you want. Just ask." She shyly replies: "I think I like try 69." He shouts: "What? You want chicken and brockery........now?" Always remember: Many man smoke but Fu Man Chu.

For the last 50 years there has been no country in the world more subject to our wishful thinking than China. From the time of Nixon's 1972 trip to China up until now we have gone from one fantasy to the next, imagining that there is now a realistic relationship between our two countries, but, when you break it all down, China is left holding most of the cards. We imagine that we have some influence over them when we in fact have zero leverage with them on any issue. We have mortgaged our nation's economic future to them, our corporations have made them into the economic powerhouse of the world, and every now and then we send a president or a secretary of state over there to 'give them a talking to' about human rights, espionage, Tibet, and maybe even now these poor Uighur 'seditionists', and every time we come with the diplomatic equivalent of our tail between our legs. China is one of the few remaining land empires, and we have no power over them.
