evelyna13a3, the monorail drivers aren't poorly trained AT ALL. The driver that passed away had experience. This was just an accident, plain and simple.

From the kiddie parks to the major airlines all are poorly training their employees to transport the usa. Most should offer hazardous duty insurance just to take the ride.

More unskilled low pay probablly illegal driver. When I lived in Florida in the 70s -I applied for a job at Disney world. I had to turn them down because I had to eat. Lowest wages in the usa.

I have been on the monorails at Disney 1,000's of times. I have never seen two so close together on the same track. They always stop the monorail on the track if it gets to close to the one ahead of it. Something must have gone wrong. There should never have been two in the station at the same time. Either the driver was not paying attention to what was ahead and the signals or the system was not working correctly. I do not believe this has ever happened before with the monorail. It is one of the safest rides at Disney. There have been accidents at Disney before, But most are from unhealthy people riding rides they should not be on in the first place. Like riding a roller coaster with a heart problem. Disney does everything it can do to make all rides and all parks safe for the guest. But we all need to remember that accidents do happen. Specially if your not paying attention or following the rules.

ZOOPA BUG, The reason that the park was open was because everyday Disney has one park that opens one hour early and closes three hours late, it is called "Extra Magic Hours". The only ones that are allowed in the park (everyday is a different park) are guests staying at Disney World on property Resorts, if you are not staying at one of the resorts you cannot be in the park after hours. The reason that there were people at the park besides what I mentioned above is because they also had over 65,000 people in the park for the 4th of july fireworks display, so even though all of the non resort guests were gone, there were still a lot of resort guests trying to get back to their hotels on buses, the ferry and the monorail, at that time. Magic Kingdom was supposed to close by 2 a.m. but the roads were still congested at 1:30 a.m. from people trying to leave the property. I know this because I'm a motor coach operator and my company works with Disney transporting guests to and from Disney...

It is unbelievable that there are so many 'experts' on Disney policy and so many 'witnesses' to deaths and injuries that never happened! Disney DOES care about it's guests and cast members. They know that without them, they are worthless. Disney does not leave people with injuries to fend for themselves as stated by some of you morons. Those of you who bad mouth Disney for hiding injuries and deaths are not realistic. Most deaths and injuries at Disney are caused by people disregarding the safety features and rules provided by Disney. All in all, Disney is one of the safest places on earth. Consider the fact that there are hundreds of thousands of people there daily and very few injuries or deaths.

I'm guessing here, but I imagine the after hours is when they are training relatively new operators.

ZOOPA BUG How could there 5 guests there at 2:00 AM ? The park should have been closed to the public by then. ************ Sometimes they have special groups that rent the park after it closes. Usually a business having an event or even family reunion or birthday. They close, all normal guest leave, and then special group enters. We got lucky one night. Everyone thought my wife and daughter and I were part of the group. Was nice to have the run of the place without the crowds.
