Without further information than is given here, I'd have to think that the monorail driver--Austin Wuennenberg--likely made an error that led to his death. While he may have been an excellent person, someone of that age is more easily distracted--even if only momentarily--and thus more prone to having an accident.

The Disney monorail is probably safer than riding the bus or ferry.

Cinnysim---I grew up in S. Cal where the ORIGINAL Disneyland is. I rode the Monorail several time in my visits (too many to count), and I have never considered that my parents had mentallity issues. I sure your kids love the museums you take them to, or the theater. However, if your kids have been to Disneyland, I am sure they would love that too! Children learn what they live and there is NOTHING wrong with variety in life! Nothing MENTAL about it! Get a life out of the dark, drab museums! Enjoy life, you only have one!

Cinnysim,I travel to Disney at least once a year and I am also one of the smartest students at my High School (the largest in the state of ILL.) and I belive that people should have equal time spent between school, work and play

Gee-whiz, Cinnysim, I never though to expose my children to those so called museums. I dream of the day that I can take my kids to the theatre. Now, on a serious note, what type of "mentality" are you talking about? My 2 kids have been to Disney ALOT. My 3 year old has been there twice and my 7 year old has been there 5 times already. I can't even count how many times I"ve been there. I know it's alot. I'd rather have the Disney mentality than your snotty attitude anyday of the week.

Ms Mckenna, 45, makes an interesting comment about being afraid to use the monorail again after the fatal accident.37,261 people died in traffic accidents last year, so I expect she never gets in a car?

Good grief, people...have any of you thought of exposing your children to theater or museums (art or natural history)? I simply cannot understand the mentality of these parents.

THE MONORAILS ARE SAFE!!!! I was just in Disney on Friday,July 3,2009 and rode the monorail wtith my daughter, her friend and another little boy from Kentucky and we all sat up front with the driver at about 11:30pm. The driver was very caution and alert while answering the children questions and operating the train. There was an actually shift change in the middle of our ride and the next driver was just as alert and professional as the first driver. We have been to Disney several times and rode up front with the driver several times.
