EUCLID, Ohio (July 8) - An Ohio woman who found a fawn in her flower garden has been accused of beating it to death with a shovel.
Dorothy Richardson, 75, was charged in a warrant with animal cruelty at her Euclid home near the Cleveland Metroparks Euclid Creek Reservation, a wooded park where deer, foxes and other wildlife roam.

Animal control officer Ann Mills requested the warrant. She said "everybody's very upset" about the fawn's June 15 death.
Richardson hasn't appeared in court. She told Cleveland's WKYC-TV she was afraid of the fawn and used a shovel to try to make it move. She said after it died she put it in a box and took it to the curb on trash day.
Euclid's cruelty to animals charge is punishable by up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.

the old reperbate should not live in a park!! She's shaling hands with the Alzheimers crew and needs to be somewhere safe, from herself and helpless little fawns, it was probably born in her flower garden and she scared it's mother away, had she given it a few hours it would have gained it's legs and been gone. I live next door to a state park, I have fawns in my tomatoes every summer but they leave on their own and a fence around the tomatoes gives them a fighting chance too.

If she ever comes into my yard, my shovel will be waiting for her. What she did is brutal, uncalled for and just plain wrong. Too bad she can't get life in prison.

This woman should move if she doesn't like wild life, they were here first. And why lie about how it died, we know she wacked it hard or it would still be alive. She should get a hefty fine at the least.

It's perfectly alright, however, for people like Sarah Palin to shoot animals for the hell of it and either eat them after they're dead or put them on their walls. We have dear that eat our flowers and vegetables, so I can sympathize, After all the work we do watering, trying to repel deer, take care of the garden, these pests come and destroy what is presently a $900 investment thanks to the landscaper. I couldn't kill a deer, but understand her frustration. I would happily poison the pests, though, if I could, next time they came over and took another bite. Don't need their ticks, either- the whole area is infested with lyme disease.

What bothers me is not only that she beat the fawn with a shovel, but that she put it in a box by the curb. Really, if you commit a crime at least try to hide it. If having a fawn in her yard was that much of a problem, she could have called the DNR/Humane Society/the game warden to remove it. I say she should be charged with poaching as well as animal cruelty.

Msteven229, that's what fences are for. And apparently YOU cared enough to comment, moron. I hope the old witch serves the 6 months in jail, just in time to get out for a nice snowy Ohio day where she slips out in front of her mail box into the path of an on coming plow truck.
