My children grew up with international "sisters" and have a much broader few and understanding of other cultures and countreis....we have our last German daughter back with us now for the summer. The connections are often for a lifetime. We have our first "grandchild" from one of our Swedish girls. It is a learning experience for both the family and the kids...

I hosted 8 exchange students....all of them happy with their stay with many returns and visits to their countries. We heard of many unhappy students for various reasons....the exchange programs put these kids where ever they can find a bed. Some do a better job than others and care about the sstudents well being. It is about the $ for the program...most families do not get $ for hosting students.

Swtldybass...I'm sorry but, you are WRONG...it will be MUCH WORSE with the government in charge of all healthcare. The government is even saying that "Medicare is the biggest problem" because of the money issue. So guess what? GUESS what will happen to all those on Medicare (elderly people) that need expensive medication and medical procedures? Government Health Czar will say, "Oh, they're at the end stage of their lives, it won't help much to save them and it'll cost too much!" That's right, they'll let them whither and DIE. Your OWN parents and grandparents...chew on THAT. Also, as it stands, I was just put on a dr. appt. waiting list myself....NINE months!! HOW LONG do you think they'll make me wait after the government takes healthcare over? Probably two YEARS or better (and my condition is getting serious). People, EDUCATE yourselves about these dangerous bills that Obama is trying to PUSH hurrily through Congress and the Senate. He's pushing them because he KNOWS that...

Well Bluesagrado, did you happen to notice the dems have been doing the exact same things for years? When the reps were in charge the dems cried now it is vice-a-versa.You are no different.Except now you are saying stupid things like only the republicans believe in God. So you are saying that dems are all atheists?I am of no party. You people with your party hatred is sickening.Sound like a bunch of sniveling brats. Both parties are to blame for everything. You know it.So grow up and stop posting on these boards like you need your diaper changed.

What is wrong with this picture? The government pays a company to find people who will let these students live in their homes for free? And you wonder why the government keeps getting bigger. How about the government just give the money to the state agencies who use 10-20 percent to find host families and then give those families the other 80 percent? Any ratio as long as the host families get some money to help pay for them to live there. It is a fact that the government takes our tax money and does not want to give any amount of it back to the people at all.And that is why the government wants to do away with social security, medicaid, medicare, welfare and va benefits. But protect their own legacies. We have to force our government to pay into these as individuals and depend on them as we all do.Otherwise nothing will change.Start e-mailing recovery.org and congress.gov.

AS A TEACHER AND AN AMERICAN PATRIOT I AM SORRY FOR WHAT HAPPENED TO THESE STUDENTS - EVERY STUDENT SHOULD BE ASSIGNED A MENTOR AND THEY SHOULD BE CHECKED WEEKLY - THERE SHOULD BE A FAILSAFE SYSTEM

All these concerns about how the government will handle our healthcare... I really do not know who that will turn out, but the government deciding what procedure, medicine, therapy etc, we can have is basically the same as it is now, with our private insurance deciding what healthcare procedures we can have, based on their opinions, not our doctor's opinion.

THE POOR KIDS HAD A TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE HERE. MY SON AND HIS WIFE AND THREE CHILDREN HAD AN EXCHANGE STUDENT THIS YEAR FROM GERMANY. HE HAD IT MADE LIVING IN A BEAUTIFUL HOME ON THE WATER WITH A POOL ETC. HE WAS GIVEN MONEY BY THEM, AND CELL PHONE AND THEY BOUGHT CLOTHES FOR HIM HE DID NOT SEEM TO HAVE MUCH MONEY FOR EXPENSES EITHER SO THEY GAVE HIM SPENDING MONEY AT TIMES. IT WAS JUST LIKE HAVING ANOTHER OF THEIR OWN KIDS. THEY DO NOT WANT TO DO IT AGAIN BECAUSE IT WAS EXPENSIVE. THEIR GROCERY BILLS WENT UP. THEY ENJOYED HIM. WE ALL DID. WE LOVED HIM.

I see that a lot of you ignorant azzes thing that it's only america taking in these foreign students, what do you think exchange means? It's a two way street, we have american students going to their nations also. How would the parents of our students feel? If it was our students who was the victims in the host countries, America means a lot to most countries in this world. Bad publicity like this, demeans out country in the eyes of these foreign.
