archbishop weakland was forced to resign because of a sex and financial scandal 7 years ago. I think that is far worse then what we are talking about here today.

Father Cutie did what he thought he had to do. The pope will probably remove him from the roman catholic priest hood. If he wants to be an episcopal priest that is fine. Maybe that is what god wants him to do.

Celibacy doesn't have a biblical basis; about a millenium ago there actually were married Catholic priests and, yes, married popes! Today the church allows ordained Episcopal priests who are married to cross over to the Roman camp and retain their families, and also allows men made single by widowhood to accept a priestly calling. {The father of disgraced First Jersey Securities financier Robert Brennan was one such gentleman.} Some splinter denominations with sworn loyalty to Rome also have different rules: the Ukrainian Catholic Church will ordain married men but if a single man becomes a priest he has to remain single, while the Polish National Catholic Church allows marriage as the Anglicans do. Most men who resign the priesthood to marry remain very active as lay Catholics; if Rome were to allow marriage their priest shortage would largely end, and the calibre of their candidate pool would also certainly improve. Unfortunately, the only thing that will sometimes drive change...

If he truly cared about his religion he would have left the priesthood and became a layman, rather than changing his religion to fit his own sexual desires.

Good for you Father Alberto. I don't think God intended for man to be celibate. It's unnatural. How can a priest preach about love and family when he is supposed to be celibate? That is why I stopped going to Catholic Church and started going to an Episcopal Church. Our Pastor is married and is wonderful. I feel really bad for his fiancee' as they will put her under the knife. They will exploit her and say that she is to blame for his leaving the Church. Not so. Love did that. And as far as I am concerned, GOD will not condem either one of them.

I personally know a former priest and a former nun that fell in love and left their church to marry 48 years ago. They are wonderful people. At the time they had to move away to avoid scandal. This has been happening for years and years. Can't understand if he was so well known why he would be out in public like that. He could have just left the post with dignity. That is more my problem with him, not that he fell in love.

Being raised a Catholic, this is a bit of news. But I've seen it happen before with a local Priest/High School teacher near me who was a good Christian man and one I still look up to even 40 years later. He also left the Priesthood to become a husband and loving dad. I've long felt that celebacy was wrong for men or women in general, and that God made us to procreate and to continue on as a species in general biological terms. It seems that the Catholic Church considers a celebate life to be superior in some way to a traditional man-woman loving relationship. I believe it's time to reconsider this unreasonable requirement. "Sorry, conservatives. But celebacy doesn't work. "....Being a conservative has "0" to do with it, it's the fact that man cannot live without sex....I don't care which man it may be....a man and sex go together like macaroni and cheese!!GOOD LUCK FATHER, I WISH YOU ALL THE BEST IN YOUR NEW LIFE!!
