Each week, the 'Glee' club of McKinley High put on amazing productions as they rehearse, perform and prepare for their sectional competitions. With genres ranging from musical theater to country to hip-hop, the group has had as much success with energetic, classic rock songs as they have with sweet and soulful ballads. Here's 10 picks we think make great choices for Will Schuester to assign to his talented, if somewhat troubled, group of students.
'When Doves Cry' -- Prince
With a tune as great as this one, any style can work. Mr.Schuester could speed it up, slow it down, remix it - whatever way it's done, powerful belters like Rachel and Mercedes could inject some real soul into this classic song.
'Let It Be' -- Beatles
We've yet to see the group perform any Fab Four tunes, leaving some hope for multiples numbers or a medley. This song should be included, no questions asked - with plenty of room for multiple singers and harmonic choral arrangements, it would surely result in an emotion-packed performance.
'Breakaway' -- Kelly Clarkson
As the students make their way through the murky waters of high school, they're bound to encounter new hopes and dreams. Any Kelly Clarkson song would due, but this hit ballad would make a great choice for the growing teens to sing.
'Killing Me Softly' -- Roberta Flack
This song divided up into solos with simplistic instrumentation would give everyone - including Rachel, Finn, Quinn, Kurt and Mercedes - a chance to shine and stretch their voice while fitting in with the music-laced storyline.
'Shook Me All Night Long' -- AC/DC
We'd love to hear the guys of the glee club try out their rock and roll chops on this party hit. With some sexy choreography and the ladies showing off their mischievous side, this could be one hot number.
'Seasons of Love' -- Rent
So far, musical theater numbers have been a big hit. Considering 'Seasons of Love' is performed by almost every high school choir at some point, it seems only fair that the glee club of MicKinely High has their chance.
'Knockin' on Heavens Door' -- Bob Dylan
With all the drama that's gone on so far in 'Glee,' it seems almost inevitable that at some point we'll lose a cast member. Whenever that happens, maybe Mr.Schuester can arrange this classic, a la Guns N' Roses, for a pensive, peaceful memorial.
'Livin' on a Prayer' -- Bon Jovi
Hearing the guys take on 'It's My Life' in the battle of the sexes was an absolute treat. Maybe taking on this Bon Jovi hit - with girls included this time - would make for another rock and roll treat.
'Say My Name' -- Destiny's Child
We've seen how successful girl group hits can be, like with episode five's 'You Keep Me Hangin' On' performance by Quinn and the cheerleading squad. Some modern hits from the likes of Destiny's Child would only highlight the glee club's girl power.
'Use Somebody' -- Kings of Leon
Already, we've seen Mr.Schuester give the group current hot hits from the charts like 'Take a Bow' and 'No Air.' This wildly popular KoL song would be a perfect fit for Finn to sing to Rachel as he grapples with his waning affections for Quinn.
