In late June, Hamas police in Gaza attempted to detain a woman after she was seen walking with a man on the beach. The incident suggested the Islamic militant group may seek to enforce its own version of public morality. Here, Hamas security officers patrol the beach in Gaza City on June 17.

amyconnellcalif 06:23 PMJul 10 2009 Sorry, but I don't see how this rates as a top news story, just because some people were hassled on a beach like it never happens anyplace else. I mean, we already approved Israel's annual $6 billion earler in the week. So, yeah, we understand you don't like Hamas . Why the h-ll should I worry about it.A red flag always goes up when I see mainstream media ballooning a minor news item like this. More agiprop nonsense.

The only difference I see between fundie Islam and fundie conservative Republicans is the fundies in Islam have a greater lead of bullying the people.

Yet it is the same group that the left wing Messiah, Obama has recognized as the legitimate representatives of the Palestinian people ----------That's because Hamas won an election you dummy. I know conservatives don't really care about democracy but other do.

WWWelling wrote: When will liberals realize that the true enemy of diversity and pluralism is radicalized Islam, and not their local Republican party office? Unless we want to see this kind of extreme persecution of freedom of conscience, we in this country must unite against militant islamic efforts to get a foothold in western society, and work to roll it back in Islamic countries. --------That's conservative speak for "Lets drop millions of tons of explosives on Arabs" What conservatives are too stupid, ignorant and self regarding to accept is that WE radicalised Islam by our interference in Islamic countries. It started in the 19th century with European colonialisation of the Middle East by European powers and continued through the 20th and 21st century with neo-colonialism interference and exploitation of those countries. All the lessons of history show that we will never win the fight against radical Islam by military means alone (the success of the Sunni Awakening shows that)

If we allow the religious conservatives to pursue their agenda in Western democracies this intolerable intrusion of the state into our private lives is what we will get.

Amy is right - this is not newsworthy. Who are we to comment on the mores of another culture. I'm not a fan of Hamas and it is clear their agenda, as declared, is not peaceful, but how their cultural values within themselves are their affair. Who here would like to be judged on the cultural ideals of, say the Jerry Springer show, as indicative of our country's achievements.

HEY ROCKHEAD WHY DO YOU ALWAYS WRITE IN CAPITAL LETTERS? So you think if you do people will listen to you? Really they won't. So Rockhead I know this is hard for your brain to comprehend but the article talks about Hamas, not about Israel. So get off your high horse and stop complaining about the war that was started by HAMAS by shooting rockets at innocent civilians. If children were killed it was because the brave Hamas terrorists used them as shields. The terrorists were easy to spot because they were holding a child in front of them and behind them as a bulletproof vest. So Rockhead how about a comment on the repressive practices of Hamas. Silent again as usual. Ya see Rocky if you don't have the quote from a racist website then you are silent with no opinion. I know this is difficult for you but try to come up with a complete thought of your own and really try to follow the article instead of spewing your ignorance. A mind is a terrible thing to waste.

This may be OUR problem if Obama keeps doing things that are not in America's best interests.
