Henry Hudson got lost on the way to japan, and discovered Manhatten instead. Is crew was so pissed each man made a fist, and punched him until he was dead.

I'm pretty sure USC gets Federal Grant Money to do this type of research..yes private funds are used also....And yes the Feds should stay out of the pubic business unless there is a National Threat...otherwise the states can handle their own lawmaking and enforcing just fine...my 2 cents

T Steelman 04:59 PMJul 08 2009 One more point to make this relevant. Would an ice free polar route change the economic balance of power the United States has with both Europe and Asia? ......It would especially benefit Canada as most of the area where an ice free route would be already a part of Canada.

Kookabob 03:58 PMJul 08 2009 Who really gives a damn any more. Maybe we should blow more us money that could be used for something good into something dumb like this>>>>>>>>>It states clearly in the article that the research was conducted at the University of Southern California, a private institution. Ergo, the study was privately funded. Please read clearly before jumping to wrong conclusions.

One more point to make this relevant. Would an ice free polar route change the economic balance of power the United States has with both Europe and Asia? In that, the US has enjoyed a relatively lower cost of trade with both regions because of our location. Trade between Europe and Asia is more costly, A polar route could change the dynamics of business. Europe and Asia could trade with each other with similar shipping costs to the US. In a trade dispute, we could find that we are cut out completely. Another beneficiary could be Canada with port development on the North Sea.
