FORT COLLINS, Colo. (April 7) — Hurricane experts at Colorado State University have scaled back their prediction for the Atlantic and now say this will be an average season with 12 named storms, including six hurricanes. They say two of them could be major.
Researchers William Gray and Phil Klotzbach earlier predicted an above-average season with 14 named storms — seven of them hurricanes and three major.

The hurricane season rusn from June 1 to Nov. 30.
Gray said Tuesday the forecast was dialed down because of improved chances of El Nino conditions that suppress hurricane formation.
This is Gray's 26th year of forecasting hurricanes.
His predictions are watched closely by emergency responders and others but critics say such long-range forecasts have little practical value beyond focusing public attention on the danger.

Here in panhandle Florida, we ignore ANY predictions concerning hurricanes. We know the best policy is to prepare ourselves as if we know it will be a bad year. If the 'big one ' hits we are as ready as possible -- If it doesn't , we feel relieved and know we will go through the same preps next year___ HELLO New Orleans -- We certainly don't sit on our duffs and hope someone comes to 'Rescue Us' ! Our preparations include evacuation plans that are put into action when our LOCAL authotities deem necessary !

As a Florida resident, they are scarey, I have enough batteries to light up a city. Every year there is a panic when one is out at sea. You just go with the flow and hope for the best.

I have been through 4 major hurricanes and they are not fun. As far as predictions they are just that. I would put as much credence in a crystal ball.

Coastal cities in the US should all build desalinization plants to provide their own water supply, instead of drilling wells and otherwise stealing water from the interior of the USA. Cities in the US should also use the methane gas from thir own city sewer systems to fire steam turbine generators to provide electrical power for their citizens. Energy INDEPENDENCE is a wonderful thing.
