Yes, I am sure we all know of relatives and friends that are too frugal to burn electricity, but will use a ceiling fan or hand fan rather than buy or turn on an air conditioner. Believe me, I am not one to live with the air conditioner on, I actually didn't want one when my children were growing up, as I couldn't hear them at night, this bothered me. However, in my mid life, I have to have one on, especially when it's so hot. Your electric bill goes up in the summer and the holidays whether you use lights or air conditioning anyway, so you may as well indulge yourself in the luxuries of life, you can't take it with you! Enjoy life one moment at a time!

Everyone keeps calling these people cheap. You need to realize that most of the elder people that this happens to, usually are at an age that they actually went through the depression. They feel this is the only way to not be without money, food, or a place to live. Alot of people who grew up during that time only ate one meal a day, and sometimes less. "Frugal" is thier survival mind set. They see A/C as a luxury and don't want to waste money. That time will come around again if we do not get this country back on track. And if this happens, we will all be doing the same thing. It's a sad thing.

I realize twins have a special connection, but to die together is a bit much! Yes, the heat may have played a role in the deaths, so can carbon monoxide poisoning, or illnesses, wouldn't an autopsy be done to determine the exact cause of death? If the neighbors, relatives or other acquaintances of these two women hadn't seen or heard from them in two days, why not investigate sooner, even in one day!

Mareslaig ... assisting living is not free, average individual cost $1600 a month, and that's on the low end.

When I was young, we didn't have air conditioning. We had attic fans that drew air into the house from outside through the windows. They would cool people off to a tolerable degree at small cost. We may have to go back to that in future if the fools in Washington have their way. Heaven help us.

As sad as that old man in Michigan who froze to death because the electric co cut off his power. ...............No, he froze to death because he didn't drive down to the I-Hop and have some hot coffee, or move to Florida.

After reading this article, these two elderly ladies knew better! They refused to turn on the A/C or get a fan. I have lived in SA, TX and the oppressive heat and humidity there can kill you. These 2 elderly, possibly senile ladies should have been living in a assisted living community. No sympathy for being hard-headed or foolish. Sure is ashame and tragic...
