I am due June 25, I was without power for 13 days. I told my husband there is going to be a lot of babys, and a lot of divorces. You eaither couldn't get enough of your spouse or you got to much of them.

The state of TX should buy up the land, clear it, put in cement blocks for motor homes or trailers for tourists, two week limit, make some money, then during hurricane season close it down.

f you think the HEIGHT of the storm surge does not matter HOW FAR INLAND it destroys every home, you have no concept of basic physics. ...Never said it did not. I stated was if your house is gone, it is gone. I live on Gal Bay which is behind the island. When a hurricane approaches, it pushes water. Once it has no where else to go, it goes up. Our house was 20 feet above mean water level and sustained four feet inside. Hmmm. 20 4=24. Speaking of low lying, isn't NO below sea level?

Finally, whether you have 30 feet of 24 feet, if your house is gone, it is gone...................................................Red if you think the HEIGHT of the storm surge does not matter HOW FAR INLAND it destroys every home, you have no concept of basic physics. ALL of the homes, businesses and buildings here in some cities were detroyed up to MILES inland! BTW Ike never reached over 20 feet, according to the records, unlike Katrina was well over 30 feet to Biloxi, MS. I am sorry obout the small town in Texas, but it was a very low line area almost at sea level on a peninsula. Galveston and all the rest of the towns did quite well with moderate damage but were not in total ruins!

I bet the welfare offices in Texas too saw a boom in business after Ike.

Stateman26, you're right ! They shouldn't be home making babies during a hurricane, they should be looting damaged homes and businesses, stealing from their neighbors and just out causing trouble for the cops. Stateman26, you are a fool !

Ok morons...the point of the stroy is that millions of people were without electricty for several weeks and they filled the time by making babies. It said nothing about welfare or race or any other crap like that. Quit looking for reasons to be pricks and pay attention

I live close to Houston, TX. When Hurricane Ike came through, we only lost power, water, and phones for about 5 days. I had never been without water in my life, so it took some adjusting. I applied for emergency food stamps, but didn't get them. I didn't ask for any other help though. Not only did I lose all the food in my fridge, but my fridge died. I had to buy a new one once the power came back on. I'm not a person that usually asks for help from the government, but I felt I needed it to ensure that my kid's were fed. I'll never ask again!
