To Shores21: Are you saying that the Constitutional issues in favor of ouster are all really that simple, and there are absolutely NO ARGUMENTS to the contrary? ----- Shores21: "that is the ONLY reason the military was called in"

To Tranquilrivers: You realize that this might not make any sense to a lot of people if he was very unpopular and knew it, but you say he was trying to go for a popular referendum as you say? ---- Tranquilrivers said: "There is no question that he was not a popular president. he knew this well, that is why he was trying to get an illegal referendum voted on which would have eliminated term limits on his presidency. To Ron1Veron2: That's not nice Ron1Veron2, why are you being so nasty to Bringemyoung17 when all he was doing was trying to have a civilized discussion?? ---- Ron1Veron2 said: ==== "Ok-first: I'm not your friend-second: the countries in Central America will trade with Honduras. Third: it's like my brother-in-law in Choloma Honduras says-Cuba has survived many years cut off from a lot of the world and so can Honduras. Fourth: Zelaya is finished in Honduras. And last-but not least kiss my ass old buddy."

E5capeVelosity: There is no question that he was not a popular president. he knew this well, that is why he was trying to get an illegal referendum voted on which would have eliminated term limits on his presidency. Their was not an opition to wait and see what the people would say in an election because he had served the max amount of time the honduran Constitution allowed. That is why I posted my response in the manner you received it. The military was called in not as a Coup attempt but under order of the Honduran Supreme court to prevent an illegal and abusive action of power. i really cannot make it any clearer, if you do not understand or will not understand after this, there is nothing further i can say.

To E5capeVelocity ... Yeah, I was there -- these are the words of the Honduran people and people I respect, including religious leaders ... I am only reporting what I have seen and heard in Honduras.

To Shores21: How can anyone, (you or anyone else), really know that this was the ONLY reason the military was called in? Did someone tell you this? To E5capeVelocity ... The question is if the means used were justified under the constitution. As I understand it, he can be arrested under Honduran laws -- and as he was violating a Supreme Court and Atty General direct order, then he was subject to arrest -- that is the ONLY reason the military was called in -- in Honduras, they are more like a Nat'l Guard or national police -- remember, if this was a true military coup, then the military leaders would control the country .. like the Castro and the Ortago take overs -- instead, the Honduran congress elected the interim president as directed by constitutional law. OK .. so Mel was to be arrested, but they gave him an out -- resign and be exiled. The world needs to know these facts and not rush to judgment -- if Washington is going to talk to Mel, then they should also talk wit the interim government -- they are only looking at one side of this equation (although I am sure they know more than they are telling).

To Tranuilrivers: It's very easy to say that Zelaya is unpopular without any verification since you didn't wait for the next elections. How do you think that looks. "Oh we know he was popularly elected but we're sure he's not popular now but we won't decide this by elections we will instead call the military? But we're sure he's not popular any more, don't worry about it?" I assume you're not trying to be funny but come on. ----- Tranquilrivers: This tactic is the same one Chaves used in Venezula. It should be considered that the majority of Honduran citizens want nothing to do with Zelada. he is a very unpopular President.

Escape velocity: Zelada ran for presidency under a moderate platform, once elected he deceived the people and turned 180 degrees to the left. He made alliances with Chavez,Ortega, and Castro. The referendum he was proposing was among others things permission to extend his Presidential tenure to an indefinite date. This tactic is the same one Chaves used in Venezula. It should be considered that the majority of Honduran citizens want nothing to do with Zelada. he is a very unpopular President.
