There are several ways this explosion could have happened. A box of shells dropped from eight feet could be sensitive enough to set off either the lift charge of black corned powder or a cut star inside the shell. Many of the stars contain chemicals that are sensitive to shock in the right combinations. Then there is the possibility that someone was smoking. It sounds impossible, but I have seen it. A cigar chomping man, unloading boxes from a truck, loading them in the ground tubes and using the cigar to light them! Incredible! A more plausable cause would depend upon the firing method used. If a fire board was used, the shells may have been pre squibbed. Squibs are match head like devices that pop like a dynamite cap when electricty is run through them. They are also sensitive like a match head, only all over, not just the tip. If one of them was crushed or rubbed between two shells, it would set off the quick match and within mili seconds, the rest of the works. A thorou...

acem......................you dont ban what you cant do without....like cars, etc. even though they are dangerous...................but if you ban fireworks it is something you can do without...............they are nothing but trouble even during production fase....and the danger continues even during storage ....... not to say what damage they can cause while being used....

I have a friend where I can go sit in their backyard and watch the fireworks. My fun ended this weekend as the township is too cheap to send off the fireworks. Not only that-none bothered to notify the droves of people who show up every year to watch the fireworks. The 4th of July without fireworks! Simply appalling. More money wasted so the taxpayer cannot even enyjoy the 4th of July. Imagine the disappointment of all the kids! The counties and cities need to lay off their executives first and scrimp on services 2nd.

When you play with fire, you get burned. For the person who said, "Ban fireworks shows since workers were killed," banning something promotes underground activity, always. I don't see the point in fireworks either, besides the "OOOH, pretty colors!" banter from the cave dwellers also known as 'the audience.'

once at a fireworks display this rocket went off course and its star burst went off right over stands filled with spectators. then you could see these lit fuses falling into the crowd and they had the report of cherry bombs when they went off all around people. no one was hurt seriously, though
