ACCRA, Ghana -The lucky ones saw him waving from behind the bulletproof glass of his passing vehicle for a few fleeting seconds. The others, like the rest of the world, just watched President Barack Obama's visit on TV.

This would have been a good opportunity to "broaden the debate and scope " of the role that African slavery has played in the world for over 2000 years. Obama's Kenyan lineage represents the prime movers of African slavery (Africans themselves) and his Islamic background represents the main" brokers" in the African slave trade. In truth the longest slave movement was east to Arabia and beyond and the western terminus for most slaves was Brazail and South America. It is also quite interesting that the most concern for ending slavery came from the relative newcomers to it England and the post 1785 established US.In the US by 1809 (24 years after tidying up after the War of Independence) the US baned the importation of new slaves and within another40 years the beginnings of the anti-slavery movement began to gain strength and ultimately ended in a incredible bloody war that ended slavery in the US.While there is much to social and moral baggage to carry.
