WASHINGTON (July 13) -- President Barack Obama nominated for surgeon general a rural family physician who has faced hurricanes, flood and fire to care for impoverished patients along Alabama's Gulf Coast.
Obama says Dr. Regina Benjamin understands the needs of the poor and uninsured, making her uniquely qualified to be America's doctor as his administration tries to revamp the health care system.

President Barack Obama announces Alabama family physician Regina Benjamin as his surgeon general nominee.

For her part, Benjamin on Monday ticked off preventable diseases that have claimed nearly all her relatives — diabetes, high blood pressure, lung cancer.
She pledged to fight so that, in her words, "no one falls through the cracks as we improve our health care system."

You think Obama could pick someone who wasn't unhealthy and overweight? He's sending a very poor message when obesity is such a problem.

do all psychologists have balanced lives? what if you thad to be dlvorce free to be a marriage councelor? Had to have kids with a 4.0 to be a teacher? All politicians have to be moral to lead by example?? hmmm we REALLY missed the mark here! SHe is overweight,,, but that should be judged differently than the above mentioned? People still feel it is their right to judge over weight people,,, thats wrong,,, unless you walk in their shoes you have no clue. She is VERY qualified,, judging her on her appearance is as bad as judging her race or her gender

What kind of crap is this? The next thing Obama will do is appoint Ramsey Youseff as National Security Advisor and appoint big Democratic doner Bernie Madoff as head of the Treasury. If GW wrecked america in 8 years, Obama did just as much damage in 6 months.

well, well, well.....no surprise here. I would like to know when the American people will wake up to realize what's REALLY going on in this country!!!! It's an Obamination. It's very clear that he's only going to get HIS kind into every position possible. Wasn't her comment that Physicians shouldn't get paid??? Doesn't she get a salary? What is her salary going to be? I don't think she'll refuse a salary!!! She's an idiot!! I don't care what degree she has. By the way, the US gov't can't even get the US Post Office to operate properly, how will they ever get Healthcare right?? Think about it AMERICA!!

Oh boy!! Leave the lady and President alone! Why is everyone getting into his business? He is the man now and he can appoint any one he feels is capable of doing their appointed jobs. Stop being so hateful. A person can perform their duties even though they are overweight. See how many overweight caucasion nurses, doctors, lawyers, senators, military leaders, and etc. there is. No one mentions their weight, now that a black, fairly overweight WOMAN is choosen for the Surgeon General, everyone gets into the act. Let the leaders lead. Your tax monies is a small token campared to the majority of the rest of us, whom are supportive of the President.

Wait a minute, this is Surgeon General of the United States. This isthe Dr. that is suppose to be watching out for Americans and givingthe general public health advice. The Federal Government has said foryears that we have a obesity epidemic. And now the Administrationwants to put a fat woman in charge of the country's health?? What thehell are you thinking? If she can't control her eating habits how canshe advise the nation to do the same? Would it be acceptable to havea Secretary of the Treasury that has filed for bankruptcy? If youcan't manage yourself how can you possibly manage others? I justdon't get it, if I am missing something here please let me know.

BO is going to pick someone that he thinks will back his socalist plan that will further ruin the USA. I don't care about her weight but it does look bad. I also think BO is nominating alot of bad people and somehow they are getting thru. BO and wife are KNOWN racist, do research! Their *former* church and pastor is a good start.
