Bush and Cheney knew they were breaking the law. That's why they worked so hard to try to craft legal cover. According to the Washington Post, Comey laid out a scenario to Gonzales in which Bush administration officials would end up facing criminal prosecution. James Comey reported, "I explained to him what this would look like some day and what it would mean for the president and the government... I told him it would all come out some day."

President Bush kept us safe. .........He didn't. Bush ignored the repeated warnings of the 9/11 attacks. He ignored the repeated warnings of the devastation of Katrina and was totally unprepared for the disaster. He ignored the warnings of the Army Chiefs of Staff that it would take several hundred thousand troops to occupy Iraq and led us into the second worst military fiasco in US history. He ignored the repeated warnings of the financial collapse and allowed the economy to crumble. Again and again, Bush put ideology over reality and American people have suffered the consequences.

MMNRUDE95 09:56 PMJul 11 2009 We haven't had another attack. Do none of you see that? Let Obama give away our strengths. Let him give away our weapons. See how safe we are after he does that!Your post appears to tell us that 9-11 never happened. This "haven't had another attack" stuff is getting old.

Enddaze 09:47 PMJul 11 2009 Bush abused his power and disregarded laws....he used the Constitution like it was toiletpaper....he should have been impeached and should still be brought up on War Crime charges....it makes me sick how much destruction was caused by that Regime......Fully agree. I've heard it said though that it is possible to impeach a former President and Vice-President. Might happen to Bush and Cheney...we'll see.

Are you concerned about the government conducting undisclosed intelligence activities?Yes 63% No 37% Are you kidding me? 37 percent of the people answering this question think it is ok for the govt. to spy on you, yes, you. Do you 37 percent know that it is a violation of your civil rights? damn, how stupid america has become. We are too damn fat, lazy and stupid to care when the very rights this country was created for are taken away.keep eating all that fat and sugar. Keep popping those nice little helpers the doc gave you.keep not caring about how this country is run. One day you will wake up and you will have no rights at all.

jerseytoto 12:54 PMJul 11 2009 Whether people liked or disliked the Bush administration, one thing is clear, he kept this Country safe, unharmed, economically sound & without another attack. Other Nations knew he wasn't to be fooled with; these same Nations many of whom find Obama charming & egotistical, but no one is afraid of him & I pray to GOD that while he serves as our leader we do not suffer another attack. I'm not willing to bet any money on it though. How about what happened on 9-11? Didja forget that? And Bush was the President on that day.

Wenatchi 05:31 AMJul 11 2009 I am glad that GWB did what he had to when the US had been attacked to thwart the efforts of terrorists to strike again. But when Cheney said we'd be attacked again if Kerry became President, we got the idea that Bush hadn't thwarted ANYTHING.

JourdanTM 11:47 PMJul 11 2009 I THINK LIBERALS ARE CONFUSED AS TO WHO THE ENEMY IS. HERE IS A CLUE, IT WASN'T BUSH OR CHENEY. WHEN WAR IS BROUGHT TO YOUR SHORES THERE CAN BE NO PEACE MOVEMENT. IF YOU DO NOT USE ALL OF THE WEAPONS IN YOUR ARSENAL YOU'RE A COMPLETE FOOL. AND DON'T GIVE ME THIS CRAP ABOUT CIVIL RIGHTS BEING VIOLATED, NAME ONE PERSON OR INCIDENT WHERE SOMEONE WAS WIRE-TAPPED AND WRONGFULLY CHARGED OR PROSECUTED. YOU CAN'T, AND MAKING ONE UP WON'T MAKE IT TRUE LIE-BERALSAfter going through your whole post, it's clear YOU don't know who the enemy is, either. I think Bush and his crowd used the 9-11 attacks to their advantage to bolster their power, but the thing is, they went after many of THEIR OWN PEOPLE. That kinda stinks.

TheMaleBod 12:32 PMJul 11 2009 Bush & Co. knew they were violating the Constitution. That's why they covered up their actions. They should be in jail for what they did.And that is also why Yoo wrote those memos...trying to say that what they did was NOT illegal.
