Our family has been on 20 cruises also. I think of them as completely safe; of course we do not drink. But another thought has crossed my mind, especially in the light of all the publicity of missing people from cruise ships. If someone wanted to get rid of a spouse or whomever, what better place than to "help" them off a cruise ship. Just a thought

The timing is ironic, but Shelton Wilkes has just published a novel called OVERBOARD that deals with passengers missing from cruise ships.

part of the problem is that the cruise lines push drinks. They have the poor under paid folks going around pushing the drinks . this is 25% of the profit on the ship also witha 15% tip added to the drink that is how the under paid over worked crew make a living . Yes it is the stupid folks that fall over board but fo the cruise lines say ing it is not their fault is a lie . I have gone on more the 20 cruises and it is the same no matter which line you are on excep disney which does not push drinks you can have them but they are not pushing it like carnival . and the othe lines . I beleive that these lines that get 90% of their money from Americans should be made to follow our saftey and laws rather then just use flags of convenience to avoid our laws . the fact that dopes jump over board or do stupid things is not the lines fault but they should cut out the pushing of the drinks . and add more decurity and not just vidio cams .they also should pay or taxes .

We watched a guy jump - not fall - from a Carnival ship while it was still docked. (Some drunken dare, a crew member said later.) In my opinion, if he was that loaded, that stupid, or both, before the ship even left port, he did his fellow passengers a great service by getting hurt and hauled off before the cruise began!

So now 2000 plus peoples vacation is ruined because of one idiot.I have been on cruises and like anything if you follow directions you arepretty sure to be safe and sound. They use every precaution from hand sanitizers throughout the ship to scanning your ship id when you leave and board the ship. They are always announcing or posting safety warnings.Even when it rains they but signs on deck that it is wet use caution. Duh! You are outside and it rained, its going to be wet. Carnival is known as a party cruise ship though. Thats their rep and eveything stupid like this seems to happen on Carnival. So don't drink and sail!

Cruises are great and safe IF you don't do something stupid or have someone wanting to kill you! That would be a real shame if the ships are forced to enclose balconies because of careless passengers.

Common sense or heeding rules and regulations set forth for the safety of passengers could have avoided this catastrophe. Whether intoxicated or just fool-hardy, the result is the same..............somebody is grieving tonight over it. And others are not happy at the bad name that these incidents give to pleasurable cruises and cruise lines who try to make sure this does not happen. So sad!!

TO:..........Alphama333.....06:52 PMJun 16 2009....."I'D LOVE TO GO ON A CRUISE SOMEDAY BUT, NOW...I'M SCARED TO DEATH. ESPECIALLY IF YOUR IN INTERNATIONAL WATERS. SOME PEOPLE END UP OVERBOARD UNDER FALSE PRETENSES. OTHERS...JUST PLAIN STUPID. TRYING TO CLIMB OVER THE RAILS TO SEE THE PROPELLERS OR SOMETHING. WHATEVER THE REASON...I WON'T BE GOING ON ANY CRUISES IN THIS LIFE TIME."....................Cruises happen to be a great vacation option. Why would you be fearful unless you intend to disregard the Crew when they say NO CLIMBING THE RAILS????? You are definitely short changing yourself. I have been on atleast a dozen if not more cruises and I have enjoyed each and everyone of them without incident. Just bceause some stupid moron decides to disregard the rules and regulations he agreed to by taking the cruise, should not affect your outcome! If I had thought that way or compared a cruise with the Titanic, or looked at the fatalities with RAIL & BUS Travel or the Airli...

Well it looks like no more balcony cabins on the veranda deck. Every boat will have windows like an office building because of the stupid generation of drunks who found out about cruises. Child proof caps, child proof matches, idiot proof ship windows-LOL The only difference between the caveman and modern man is the wheels are now made of rubber-brains are still pea size-LOL
