Study: New flu inefficient in attacking people

WASHINGTON -With swine flu continuing to spread around the world, researchers say they have found the reason it is — so far — more a series of local blazes than a wide-raging wildfire. The new virus, H1N1, has a protein on its surface that is not very efficient at binding with receptors in people's respiratory tracts, researchers at the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology report in Friday's edition of the journal Science.

SOC HEALTHCARE EQUALS NO HEALTHCARE FOR SENIORS 25 % CANADIA men and 50% of british men diagnosed with prostrate cancer die from it. HERE, IN USA less than 1/5th men die from it. BRITISH-ERS are also 4 times MORE likely to DIE during major surgery than Americans. H1N1 is a respiratory virus and not primarily a gastroentestinal virus...the "stomach flu" with vomiting and diarrhea and without cough is not influenza..not "swine flu"...not treated with Tamiflu

I'm hoping what put me in the Emergency Room Tuesday morning was H1N1. Whatever it was was probably viral, gave me acute gastroenteritis that not even two doses of ondansetron could subdue, and acute dehydration. I just dehydrate incredibly easily--no known reason. It's not like I want to infect others, but given the fever that bounced up to delirium, chills and sweats down to near-normal and the almost exclusively gastrointestinal symptoms, I suspect the medical experts are right, and this one is not highly transmissible through the respiratory tract. It appears to have a strong fecal-oral transmission route, and I'm guessing that's how I caught it (touching a contaminated surface unwittingly or eating contaminated food). And it's not like I wanted H1N1, but if I can get it out of the way this (relatively mildly--resumed most normal activities today) easily, I'd rather have had a couple days of GI hell and an IV fluid drip than have something that lasts a week this winter.
