Well first time I read about the guy who got lost in the mountain with a samll bottle of water and 2 rolls of bread I thought that was easy. I asked my mom and she said it is amazing a guy did that, but I still think it is a big deal...

having stood in the middle of a wild wolf pack (I really don't care whether you believe me or not ) and having spent entire summers in the mountains i can tell you it is not easy even when prepaired. one or two or even ten days is luck survival is when you can do it for six months or a year at a time. and to answer one of the questions above Yes we are raising a bunch of wilderness whimps but in another generation or three their won't be enough wilderness left to worry about it it will ber standing room only wilderness survival will be just another myth like the greek gods on olympus.

Everything in the United or Divided States is so very distorted and backwards, upside down, inside out, twisted, and seen through a very strange lens WE have been dumbed down as a society, brainwashed to think, feel, believe, and also be numb to violence. This is the sad state of this broken union. Get ready those of you who are even remotely awake Survival is what each and every one of us endured over the last half century, if we were not plugged into the box in our living rooms, if we did not buy into the bs propaganda of the corporate owned media lies, the military industrial complex, if we do not believe in nation building, if we actual believe in personal liberties, freedom of thought, choice and being able to decide on our very own without big brother stepping into our lives. Surviving one night in the woods I am afraid, is only a small beginning for what we are heading for. Call me what you want, but the time is near.

It is "survivalist" that the nine year old can stay in the wilderness by himself, even if it is just for a night. It seems pretty arrogant that people think otherwise. And if you dont know how easy it is for a child to get lost in the wilderness than obviously you never been camping with a child.

I agree with AGuenuineBear. That this overnighter is seen as a "survivalist" situation speaks volumes about us as a people. Does no one raise their children to be self sufficient at all in our country? Are we raising a generation of dependent, ignorant people? MichwarYour comment: "you would piss your pants in fear when those wolves started encircling you, licking their lips, barring their teeth, and growling."Considering that: 1) There are no wolves in Utah's Ashley National Forest (or anywhere in the state of Utah for that matter)and 2) Wild wolves have an average of .14 attacks per year (that makes the incidence of wolf attack in the United States to be RARE btw)3) In addition to those two points of trivia, wolves don't attack in the manner you've described, I think that the rate b horror flick image you flashed before us to make your point, makes me wonder if YOU (Michwar) aren't the one who would be pissing their pants when facing an overnighter out in the woods. As fo...

What a cool Father's Day present for the Dad...getting his son back safe and sound. And AGenuineBear? Your name fits you. Good thing the boy didn't find a real bear in those woods the night he was lost in them. Do you even remember how it felt to be 9 years old (a third grader)? Go back in time in your memory and remember how it felt when you got lost in third grade in the grocery store and couldn't find your mom, dad, or whomever you were with at the time, and how scared to death you felt...and then try and imagine yourself in the pitch black darkness of a Utah forest overnight, with the sounds of wolves howling, cougars growling, owls hooting, and numerous other sounds you m ight not even be able to identify as a young child that age. I bet even as an adult, if indeed that is what you are, you would piss your pants in fear when those wolves started encircling you, licking their lips, barring their teeth, and growling.
