HOW TO NOT BE IN A PLANE CRASH: Never get on a plane. Never get on a train. Never ride the subway. Never ride a monorail. Never get on a cruise. DUH! Look about you and reflect upon what"s happening around you. This system is failing.

I survived Pan Am flight 103 that blew up over Lockerbie. I missed that flight because my mother was sick that morning and I had to take her to a doctor in Frankfurt prior to the flight that went to London. But seriously, surviving an air catastrophe is either fate, divine destiny or crazy luck. I am always intrigued by the silence that follows the screams and prayers that ensue during considerable turbulence.

I was on a flight years ago from NY to CA. In the last half hour, for about 10 minutes, there was horrible turbulence. The plane was swaying from side to side, there were huge drops in altitude. The pilot(s) did a great job. The last 20 minutes of the flight were calm, but you could hear a pin drop. Everyone was silent, motionless, and petrified. I prayed to the god of every religion to let us touch ground safely. We did. I just couldn't get off that plane and far away from the airport fast enough. I can't imagine the people who are involved in a plane crash. It must be beyond horrible.

LMAO what a funny article. I really don't think it matters where you sit. Surviving a nose dive a 500 mph is just luck.

BForr...lots of people have mentioned turning the seats around. Mostly, the passengers spoke loudest by saying that they prefer to ride facing forward. I was a 7 year captain, 4 type ratings, 5,000 hours, before that 8000 hours as a bush pilot. I left the airlines for a more secure job that pays better and gives me a rewarding feeling for doing a job well. Air Ambulance. When the fake democrats are out of office I may return to Alaska and back into a C-54 again.

Flying never killed anyone.. It is the sudden stop when you hit something or the plane blows up

wondering if the flight crew has a higher survival rate due to the fact that they are seated in a backward position against a bulkhead?

This isn't a random element. How can anyone possibly think - this child survived because of luck. It's TOTALLY God and there's nothing else to say about it. God determined that person should live, that kid lived, period.

I am a flight attendant for 30 years now. Where you sit is not as important as following the instructions of your crew. For example, the US Air accident in NY, the crew performed their jobs perfectly! I mean textbook perfect, too. The things they did were exactly what we go to recurrent training every year to drill. Everything was perfectly as it could have gone, and the passengers all survived because they listened and followed the commands made by both the flight deck and cabin crews. I am still amazed when I think of how they pulled it off, and without so much as a serious injury! You want to survive? Listen and follow the instructions of your crew. Think about it, wouldn't we be selling seats at different prices [aside from first class] if we [the industry] really believed that some seat locations were safer than others? Not true, Not going to happen. In the 1980s when 2 separate accidents had survivors in what was then the "smoking section," smokers felt justified. Crazy!
