This is an awful story. It sounds like he could have very easily killed the child. When you hit someone on the head with a heavy object, chances are pretty good you're going to do serious harm. There are a lot of different ways to "snap", but people who beat on kids shouldn't be allowed to be around kids.

THAT TEACHER IS A COWARD CHILD BEATER. YOU CAN SHOW YOUR BLEEDING HEARTS ALL YOU WANT, BUT WHEN WE SEND OUR KIDS TO SCHOOL WE HAVE AN EXPECTATION OF SAFETY. ZERO TOLERANCE MEANS NO ONE GETS TO HARM OR THREATEN HARM. THAT TEACHER NEEDS TO SPEND THE NEXT 20 YEARS IN PRISON THINKING ABOUT TRYING TO KILL A CHILD, HIS STUDENT. NO MERCY FOR THIS KIND OF BEHAVIOR.

Whatever the problem that stressed this teacher out to take a leave, should've been evaluated before he was ready to return to work, and he should've been put in an office, or a lower grade, as it may have been too much in his midlife, where hormones are changing, as are they raging hormones in Junior High Level and the two may have clashed.

Students whom have violently attacked teachers or other students, what happens to them, suspension, court perhaps, first offense, slap on the wrist, put in the parents custody, made to go to counseling, and/or returns to school or is transferred out, but a teacher may be defending themselves, will ultimately be the one charged in a violent act for touching the student. If in fact this teacher did snap, hit the student deliberately, he certainly deserves to lose his job, but if this is self defense, sorry, the student too, needs to be charged! The teachers do need to stand up for their right to teach without fear of reprisals or that the student will attack them and the parent will blame the teacher instead of making their child responsible for their actions. No one has the right to abuse another in anyway, verbally, physically, mentally, emotionally, intellectually, financially, sexually, or socially! Those offenders do need to pay for their actions!!! Should they be minor ch...

THIS TEACHER SHOULD LOSE HIS TEACHING RIGHT'S ,AND BE SUED FOR EVRY THING HE'S GOT BECAUSE WE DONT NEED IDIOTS TEACHING OUR CHILDREN THAT CANT HANDLE SOME STRESS ! THE TEACHER SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN TEACHING ANY WAY ACORDING TO HIS SYCH, EVALUATION BUT HE WAS, AND HE SNAPED! IT CLEARLY SAID THE TEACHER HAD PROBLEMS IN THE PAST WITH STRESS AND WAS PUT ON LEAVE ! I DONT THINK HE WAS EVALUATED PROPERLY TO START BACK TO WORK ! THERE SHOULD BE A FEW HEADS ROLLING OVER THIS SCREW UP ! ! !

Okay, one more time. ANOTHER kid was the trouble maker and the kid that got beaten was intervening. Two more kids came to his aid and got hurt as well. The teacher was liked and amiable, BUT had been on recent leave due to STRESS RELATED issues. Obviously he was not out of the woods and something in him snapped. He has gone from well-liked to nuts. He is ill. He should not have come back this soon or maybe at all to teach in school. The kids were victims. This is a sad situation all around.

When I was in Catholic School many years ago, the Nuns would physically kick any kids azz that got out of line, and If you went home complaining, your parents would whip it again. With that being said, I can also say the only fear we had of going to school was showing up with incomplete homework. This teacher looks like he is unstable from his picture, but I bet that fowl mouth kid was at the root of unhinging the man for some time. To bad he didn't knock him senseless.
