I went through one earthquake in Redwood City. I had only been in California for 10 months. It "knocked" me out of bed at 2:45 AM and I woke up when I hit the floor. It sounded like a freight train going through my bedroom. I turned on the lights and the news.... and "they" were reporting that it was an earthquake... well, DUH! My cabinets in the kitchen were open and the dishes were on the floor. I had a huge crack running up the driveway and through my garage. I never went back to sleep! I packed everything I owned, booked my ticket back to Florida and ran like hell!! You couldn't GIVE me a house in California!! I'll take hurricanes, and my mortgage, any day!! <FYI: my brother-in-law is a geologist and told me NOT to move to Callifornia.... but, did I listen.... NOOOOOOOOO!!> LOL

Even if better tech was available to prerdict quakes the pull of special interests to gloss things over would still exist. Whether Canes, quakes or other natural disasters thnik for yourself.

"Plate Tectonic; the theory that Earth's crust and upper mantle(lithosphere)are broken into sections, called plates that slowly move around the mantle.""Continental Drift; a hypothesis proposed by Alfred Wegener, which states that the continents have moved horizontally around the globe, overtime to their current locations.""Erosion; the process that wears away surface materials and moves them from one location to another, usually by gravity, glaciers, wind, or water!."

Oh yes, there is absolutely NO WAY that erosion would have anything to do with the shifting of the earth's axis. The ratio in size of the earth's crust to the earth as a whole is approximately the same as the apple skin is to an apple. Minimal, to say the least. The earth's axis "shifts" (ie, points to a different area of the sky) over thousands of years due to the fact that the earth is rotating. It's a natural physical phenomenon, like a spinning top that wobbles due to slowing down. The earth's rotational rate is slowing too, by natural means.

''grandpa'', name some of the organizations you are involved with, NO, don't make them up as we go along, the answer is zero, older folks like you like to give advice, but you your self have no credentials to speak of, you tend to jugde todays actions by an out dated old fashion System, which simply DON'T work in todays World, so just sit back and enjoy your retirement and let the younger folks handle what needs to be handled. Piece.

XKGLADY: the creation of the continents is not due to erosion, but to the dynamics of plate tectonics. You put cold rock on a round surface; it "cracks" into plates which are then moved around via convective forces coming from deep within the earth (due to hot magma rising). What is called the Plate Tectonic Theory, in conjunction with the Continental Drift Theory is pretty much proven now, and accepted by scientists worldwide. Erosion is merely the breaking down of the earth's surface due to water, wind, etc.

with all the technical data they have today, it is not a matter of if, but rather WHEN??

Wssweeps 11:05 AMJul 12 2009 Gracecfl, you're an idiot. the last eight yrs were great, everybody who wanted a job had one. Now we have this Hussein guy who has given everything away. No jobs, no hope, nothing left./////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// //////////////////////////////////////////////You're definately in bad shape - why do you place your future into the hands of just ONE MAN? No one man can destroy America (be it Bush or Obama) - ye of little faith! Your responsible for your own future, so go to work, volunteer, get involved in the decision making process of your local, state or federal government - and stop with the excuses. You and the rest of the 300million people here are America - not one person, or even a group of folks.
