MILFORD, Conn. (April 1) - It's no April Fools joke. The baby bunny really does have two noses.

A Connecticut pet shop worker found the nosy bunny in a delivery of 6-week-old dwarf rabbits that arrived at the Milford store last week. Both noses have two nostrils.
The owner of the Purr-Fect Pets shop says he's never seen anything like it in 25 years in the business. He says the bunny eats, drinks and hops around like the rest of the litter.
Beardsley Zoo director Gregg Dancho says the deformity could be the result of too much inbreeding or the parents' exposure to pesticides or poisons.
Store workers have begun a naming contest, with Cyrano de Bergerac and Deuce among the contenders so far.

Defects can be caused by inbreeding. That's why there are laws about marrying close relatives which causes birth defects.

inbreeding does not cause genetic defects, what causes defects are breeding animals that carry the genes for the defect. Inbreeding produces no new genetic material it takes whats already there and passes it on. Outcrossing will produce animals but defects but no one ever blames the outcross

Right on KReidy5504! This just proves what scumbags these breeders are-forcing animals to live in deplorable conditions, over-breeding, in-breeding, selling them too young-it's not just w/ dogs, the rabbit breeders are worse because they do it for pet shops & food. Pet shops are downright ******-will sell animals to ANYONE-won't even provide basic info on rabbit care-all they want is the $$$-thus only sealing the animals' sad fate. I hope after OBama takes care of current problems he'll add. this issue and impose strict regs on breeders & ban ALL live animals being sold in pet stores; laws should be passed that anyone selling animals be slapped HUGE fines when the animal shelters are busting at the seams-it shouldn't be allowed & the gen. public needs to be more educated & continuously informed -WAY TOO MUCH animal abuse/suffering in this country-enough w/ only a slap on the wrist-laws NEED to be changed ASAP! (Espec. the poor little rabbits who out of all domestic pets end up in th...

Pet shops get their animals from mills where the conditions are horrible. Why are they still allowed to sell animals? That poor bunny's deformity is probably the result of inadequate shelter and food.
