SHAWBURY, England (June 18) - Britain's Prince William has hinted he would like to follow in the army-booted footsteps of his younger brother and fight on the front line.
But, as the future king, it's unlikely William would be exposed to the dangers faced by Prince Harry, who served in Afghanistan.

Royals in the News
Britain Queen Elizabeth II recently got an apology from a group of prominent British economists, according a report Sunday by a newspaper in London. Why? The economists were sorry that they didn't see the country's economic crisis on the horizon. Flip through the gallery to see other news about the British royal family.

"I still remain hopeful there's a chance," William, who is currently training to fly search-and-rescue helicopters, told reporters. "I think as a future leader of the armed forces, it's really important you at least get the opportunity to be credible and to do the job I signed up for, as best I can. That's all I want to do.
"The search and rescue role is now slightly different to obviously being able to go to Afghanistan, but it's still doing an important job."
William learned to fly during a stint with the Royal Air Force last year. He was criticized for landing one RAF chopper on his girlfriend Kate Middleton's lawn during his training, and for using another to fly to a bachelor party on the Isle of Wight.
Prince Harry, 24, known in the military as Lt. Henry Wales, is taking the same flight training program completed by his 26-year-old brother.
Maj. Zog Zvegintzov, the commanding officer of the defense helicopter flying school in Shawbury, western England, has declined to say what role the younger prince would eventually have.
Harry — who was denied the chance to go to Iraq when the British army said it was too risky — served in Afghanistan last year as a battlefield air controller until his time was cut short by a media leak. He now could spend four months to a year training in one of the British Army's helicopters — the Apache, the Lynx or the Gazelle.

Zvegintzov said that the choice of aircraft — and where it was deployed — would depend on the British military's operational requirements at the time, adding that Harry was still a long way from completing his training.
"There are a lot of hurdles to jump en route to qualifying as an army pilot," Zvegintzov said.
The news conference was orchestrated to brief the media on the brothers' progress — and to sate the public's appetite for news and pictures. Harry and his brother strolled out of an aircraft hangar to pose in front of two helicopters left idle on the tarmac as a long line of photographers snapped away.
"We're both here just doing our bit, trying to become helicopter pilots," Harry said. "We're having a fantastic time. Yes, it's hard work, but everything is hard work."
Harry's bemused fellow students watched from a distance. They said they had come to watch Harry hold court before the world's media.
"It's probably good for them, to have one day for the press to ask all their questions and get on with it," said flight school student Robert Carr, 24. "It's hard enough going through the course, I can't imagine what it's like for them."
The elder prince talked about living with his younger brother. Joking around, William said, "Bearing in mind I cook (for) him and feed him basically every day, he's done rather well."

Ruths gardens, did they re-write history of did I really not to back to Vietnam for my second tour in 1967 after the war ended, but hell I think the Armeicans were out by the time the communists came into Siagon and renamed it HoChiMin City and that was long before 1976. And Racingindy500, you are a jackass, Clinton was a damn yellow coward, as a matter of fact the military refered to him as the "Coward in Chief" And we will not even talk about this jackass we have now. And hey did call up reserve units and the national guard when Bush was in, and at least he was in something and could have gone. So how about Carter, Clinton and Nobama all cowards!

Well Racingindy500,it is nice to hear a balanced post every now and then.Bush Jr,Cheney and Clinton all had college statures. If Bush Jr's unit would have been called, he would have had to go.He was on reserve status. No matter how much the media or the dems tried to twist it,Bush Jr. would have had to go.The war was over in 1967. The remainder of the troops left by 1976.Bush Jr's reserve status started in 1968.He didn't dodge a war.His medical records show he was tested in reserve status in 1972.Kerry and the dems started an awol rumor. Hell we knew Kerry would. He got his purple heart not in combat. And when the politicians brought him back stateside, we heard him on the radio as clear as day.He was the one that labeled us as baby killers and said we were slaughtering people for fun.You will rot in hell Jim Kerry. That is from us who saved your puke ass.Semper Fi.

Racingindy500 11:42 AMJun 21 2009 It is refreshing to read that at least some future world leaders wish to serve in combat in defense of their Mother country, unlike cowardly George W. Bush and VP Cheney who did everything possible to stay out of Vietnam. And that's not letting Clinton, who was in college at the time, off the hook either, although Clinton became a great President. Not like the miserable President that George W Bush became. George HW Bush (The Elder) was a fine President and a war hero by the way, who was shot down in enemy waters. The Japanese prison camp commandant to which Bush the elder would have been sent was known to kill prisoners and eat their livers ! Sorry to go political but that's just the way it is...............................................................besides your idiotic wonderings, did you bother to read that this isn't about anywhere in our country? It is about Princes William and Harry. Hard to know from you writing what relationshi...
