Fox was in Chicago Tuesday to support House candidate Tammy Duckworth. In their report on the actor's local appearance, CBS2chicago.com interviewed neurologist Dr. Thomas Kelly. He says Limbaugh doesn't have his facts straight:
Right wing zealot and radio talk show hack Rush Limbaugh has accused actor Michael J. Fox of "acting" or being "off his meds" in a nationally televised ad, for the purpose of sensationalizing his Parkinson's disease. The campaign spot is in support of Missouri Senate candidate Claire McCaskill's support for legislation to garner funding for stem cell research.
Fox's disease has progressed where he no longer only gets tremors, which can be controlled with medication, but has more erratic movements which are caused directly by his medicine.
"Chaotic, maybe writhing, dance-like movements, or dyskinesia, the movements I've seen in Mr. Fox, are due to his medications," said Dr. Kelly.
Limbaugh, referring to the TV ad, said on his syndicated show, "He did not take his medication for the purposes of having the ravages and the horrors of Parkinson's disease illustrated."
Fox addressed the controversy: "I'm kind of lucky right now. It's ironic, given some of the things that have been said in the last couple of days, that my pills are working really well right now."
Limbaugh, who has a habit of taking illegal drugs for which he was NOT jailed, has once again dipped into the political cesspool to further energize the Republican base against science over religious superstition, which we all know is the intellectual energy source of Bush Think.

32. PERHAPS RUSH SHOULD BE A LITTLE MORE SENSITIVE, BUT I ALSO BELIEVE IT WAS STAGED. I HAVE SEEN FOX ON OTHER TV PROGRAMS AND WHEN THE TREMORS BEGAN, HE EXCUSED HIMSELF, TOOK A PILL AND CAME BACK CALM & RELAXED. THAT WAS LIVE TV -- AND THE COMMERCIAL WAS RECORDED, WHICH WOULD GIVE MUCH MORE CONTROL. IF MR. FOX IS SO CONCERNED ABOUT STEM CELL RESEARCH FOR HIS OWN CURE, WHY HAS HE NOT GIVEN HIS OWN CELLS AND LET THEM USE IT. THERE ARE MANY, MANY MIRACLE CURES CONNECTED WITH ADULT STEM CELLS, BUT NONE FROM EMBRYONIC STEM CELLS. VIRTUALLY NO ONE IS AGAINST STEM CELL RESEARCH -- THEY ARE AGAINST EMBRYONIC STEM CELL RESEARCH WHICH KILLS EMBRYOS. BUT ANOTHER PROBLEM WITH AMENDMENT 2 IS THAT IS FORBIDS WITHHOLDING ANY STATE MONEY FROM STEM CELL RESEARCH -- WHICH MEANS TAX MONEY WILL BE FUNNELED TO THIS RESEARCH THAT IS PATENTABLE BY THE FINANCIAL SUPPORTERS OF THIS BILL. THE INTENTION IS TO LET THE FETUSES GROW AND PROVIDE BODY PARTS THAT CAN BE SOLD FOR PROFIT -- AT TAX PAYER'S EXPENSE. ADDITIONALLY IT IS CHANGING OUR CONSTITUTION -- WHICH CANNOT BE CHANGED BACK. IN FACT, IT WOULD BECOME AGAINST THE LAW TO DO SO. IT WOULD BE AGAINST THE LAW TO EVEN DISCOURAGE STEM CELL RESEARCH, EVEN IF WE DISCOVER MASSIVE ABUSES OF THE PRIVILEGE. THE AMENDMENT NEEDS TO BE SEVERALY DEFEATED UNTIL SUCH TIME AS RESTRAINTS CAN BE PROPERLY PUT IN PLACE. WE SHOULD CONTINUE OUR VERY GOOD EFFORTS TO DEVELOP CURES WITH ADULT STEM CELL RESEARCH WHICH HAS ALREADY PROVED TO BE MORE EFFECTIVE THAN ANY TESTING DONE ON EMBRYOS. LET'S BE HONEST ABOUT THIS AMENDMENT. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH MEDICAL CURES AND EVERYTHING TO DO WITH MONEY. WHY IS DANFORTH SO INTERESTED IN IT? WHY HAS HE AGREED TO GO AGAINST HIS CATHOLIC UPBRINGING FOR THIS? MONEY/MONEY/MONEY FOX COULD DONATE HIS ADULT STEM CELLS AND RECEIVE A CURE FOR HIMSELF THAT HIS BODY WOULD NOT REJECT...WHAT'S HOLDLING HIM BACK? THIS IS A POLITICAL PITY PARTY. THE PROPONENTS OF AMENDMENT 2 ARE LYING ABOUT THE CONTENTS. THEY HAVE EVEN REDEFINED EMBRYO/FETUS/INPLANTATION/UTERUS, ETC. FOR THEIR OWN POLITICAL GAIN. MCKASKILL ONLY ALIGNED HERSELF WITH THIS ISSUE TO GAIN VOTES. SHE IS THE WORST KIND OF OPPORTUNIST. KILLING FETUSES FOR VOTES. SOME KIND OF LADY.

33. This whole thing makes me sick. Rush has put yet another nail in the Republican coffin. Maybe if he offered Micheal J. Fox some of his own medications, he would've delivered something more to his liking. What an insensitive, arrogant a**hole!

34. He Did Not Mock him! He spoke about him, and brought up some things. He spoke his opinion. And Fox has admitted in the past to not taking his medication before interviews, so viewers would understand better the symptoms. I love Michael J Fox, my grandmother has parkinsons, and I hope they find a cure. But I agree embryos should not be destroyed, and cloning is wrong and should be banned!

I don't have a problem with Rush Limbaugh, but he did notice the same thing that I noticed, and it's this: Mr. Fox seems to be able to turn his symptoms of Parkinson's disease on and off at will. ~Dawg~Click to play sound: Dog Bark Snarls http://journals.aol.com/incoming663/DawgBytesfromTheRealBigDawg/ www.therealbigdawg.com

36. I do not totally agree with Rush, but, the democrates have used the sick and mained and the Jersey girls to get sympthia from the sick, for there campains, remember the senater from Gerogia with no legs, it just makes you wonder how far they will go, etc.....

37. Another case of "half-truth" syndrome. If anyone had listened to the whole show they would have heard Rush admit he was wrong and he spologized to Michael J. Fox and eveeryone else that he offended. Why is it so hard for the media to print the whole truth - not just the part that furthers whatever agenda they might have.

38. What amazes me is why do we care what Limbaugh thinks or says?

39. Limbaugh is only trying to make money, the sad thing is all the educated idiots that actually listen to him!

40. Rush Limbaugh is definitely a stupid person. How many times has Michael J. Fox been on TV promoting a cure for this disease and not have taken his medications? He could not possibly be faking the uncontollable way he moves now. He probably was off his meds to once again show how debilitating this disease is. Does no one remember that Katherine Hepburn had the same disease and made several films that clearly showed the disease?
So Now Michael J. Fox is not allowed to campaign for someone that might possibly be able to help cure or find better medications, just because he has the disease. Remember our "right to free speech"? It is still in our Constitution isnt it? This is just ridiculous. Almost as ridiculous as that idiot Rush being allowed to even be on the TV. But then again, money can buy you anything even getting off drug charges. You can ask O.J. how to use money to get off of anything, even murder.

41. Rush is looking for ratings... He is the "Fat man" with the opinon picking on someone who wants to do something good for the people who really have a cause. RUSH your a druger... you lost my respect when you got busted.

42. Is there a fitting word that describes Rush Limbaugh? Ass, ignorant, grandiose, moron. I guess that covers it.
Laura at 12:30PM on Oct 25th 2006
43. As Mr. Fox surely already knows, stem cell research is ALREADY legal and CONDUCTED in the states where the bill in question is being presented. The bill says NOTHING at all about stem cell research; its TOTAL focus is on HUMAN CLONING. As has been mentioned, by others, Mr. Fox openly admits in his book that he goes off his medication when appearing for political reasons (before Congress, on a political or fundraising commercial, etc.) and the ravages of this cruel disease are displayed for all.
While I feel very dubious about his methods, it's his message and blatant exploitation of those of us who feal passionately about finding cures that is beneath contempt--BECAUSE he has taken one issue--cloning (which most people find morally questionable at best) and misrepresented it as another--stem cell research.
Before you decide about the bill (or Mr. Fox OR Mr. Limbaugh), get a copy of the bill, read it, and refer to the American Academy of Sciences web site for definitions of any terms you don't understand.
You'll quickly realize how disceptive Mr. Fox and those who put him up to this awful display ARE!

44. As a daughter of a Parkinson victim, I can't believe Limbaugh could be so insensitive and down right dumb! Further more, I pray every day for stem cell research. I have studied the issue and back it totally.

45. Rush Limbaugh has stirred up a hornets nest. I can not understand why anyone is still listening to a total fanatical idiot. We want to stress our point on Islamic Fanatics, well than we should also be able to look into our own back yard. This is a person loading up with pain pills or whatever. This is a so called man that totes Viagra, across the border. Talking about Family Values, Honor, Religion and all the rest of his supposedly educated rantings. It would have been right to wash the bile he spouts with a bar of soap. Seems people forget when it comes to making their beloved view known, what a person Rush Limbaugh actually is. I honor my country, my family values and support our troops, but politics Please!! We have our judge, and HE is the only one that knows.
The best to Mr. Fox in his fight with Parkinsons. The best to Mr. Limbaugh, by keeping his vile mouth shut. Thank you
Christa
