Fox was in Chicago Tuesday to support House candidate Tammy Duckworth. In their report on the actor's local appearance, CBS2chicago.com interviewed neurologist Dr. Thomas Kelly. He says Limbaugh doesn't have his facts straight:
Right wing zealot and radio talk show hack Rush Limbaugh has accused actor Michael J. Fox of "acting" or being "off his meds" in a nationally televised ad, for the purpose of sensationalizing his Parkinson's disease. The campaign spot is in support of Missouri Senate candidate Claire McCaskill's support for legislation to garner funding for stem cell research.
Fox's disease has progressed where he no longer only gets tremors, which can be controlled with medication, but has more erratic movements which are caused directly by his medicine.
"Chaotic, maybe writhing, dance-like movements, or dyskinesia, the movements I've seen in Mr. Fox, are due to his medications," said Dr. Kelly.
Limbaugh, referring to the TV ad, said on his syndicated show, "He did not take his medication for the purposes of having the ravages and the horrors of Parkinson's disease illustrated."
Fox addressed the controversy: "I'm kind of lucky right now. It's ironic, given some of the things that have been said in the last couple of days, that my pills are working really well right now."
Limbaugh, who has a habit of taking illegal drugs for which he was NOT jailed, has once again dipped into the political cesspool to further energize the Republican base against science over religious superstition, which we all know is the intellectual energy source of Bush Think.

62. I can hardly believe someone could say anything about the "behavior" of someone with parkinson's. My husband died as a result of it after 21 years--at age 61! It is a very disabling disease and stem cell research could help millions. Lombauagh--Maybe one day even you will know what it's like to no longer be able to control your own body. Yes, or even be able to care for yourself.

63. Remarks such as Limbaugh's would be shocking indeed, if such comments did not fall into a pattern. Rush Limbaugh has had a distain for the sick and the poor, the homeless and the mentally ill for years. He literally hates such people. He has no shame. Rush Limbaugh is not going to change, because he lacks the ability to feel empathy for any other human being. This is a trait seen in persons with severe personality disorders. Rush Limbaaugh is a Narcissist. That means that he is deeply self-centered. Narcisstic persons don't benefit from drug rehab, for their problems are deeper than addiction. Limbaugh's charachter is warped. His radio show is a forum for a monolog of hate mongering. His loyal listeners are being fed a constant line of hate-filled rhetoric. I choose not to listen to nut case radio talk , it's not worth my time.

64. My gawd! I remember when Rush was bad mouthing a little 12 year old girl who had just moved into town. He was not enchanted with her looks. Now he moves on to knocking a fine man who is dying of a miserable disease. The little girl was Chelsea Clinton and, of course, the dying man is Micheal J. Fox. What's next? Stomping on the memory of Mother Teresa? His sponsors and supporters will countenance anything from this hulk! Boycott the sponsors! And Rush, you had just better pray that your number does not come up on the roulette wheel of parkinson's!

65. I watched my beautiful Mother slowly die of the awful twisting and body bending disease for six years. Anyone who would stupe so low as to make fun of an ill person is truly in need of understanding and God's love. It is such an awful and very sad illness and I KNOW that Mr. Fox is on the level when he is speaking his mind. This disease is so horrible that I would not go through with it, God forgive me, it's just that bad. No blame on anyone for not understanding, just pitty. I just want to cry for all the sick people but Parkinson's is an ureal disease so please find a cure. Mom counldn't even be put in her casket in a straight manner. M S Higginbotham

66. I think Rush limbaugh is a big fat pig thats a dope addict and has the guts to make such a awful statement about micheal fox faking his illness. Rush you should thank God every day that you wake up that you do not have this disease. How dare you make such comments about a man that is suffering so much.

67. "Rush" is such an appropriate name for this drug addled, bloated bag of gas who will say anyhing or hurt anyone, without sympathy OR empathy, while obviously stuffing his big mouth with junk food and pills from under his desk. He's an "ill-informed", egomaniac who had his 15 minutes of fame years ago and it appears he will stoop so low he can't look up and see bottom to try to get back in the limelight. Give it up, Bluto, and go to your undeservedly fantastic home (which SHOULD be jail!)where you can gorge on food and pills, while listening to REAL commentators express their at least SOMEWHAT informed opinions.
You can't carry Michael J. Fox's shoes and should be ashamed of yourself, but that takes a conscience!!

68. I don't pretend to be politically inclined and don't know exactly what Michael J. Fox's political inclinations are. However, whatever they may be is not the point behind the terribe slandering by Mr. Limbaugh of Mr. Fox's integrity.
Anyone who is misfortunate enough to be suffering with a terrible disease such as Parkinson's, as Mr. Fox has to live with each and every day, has earned the right to "do something about it" if he so chooses.
No one can dispute the fact that Mr. Fox has this disease. If he has decided to make it his fight for a cure, then, in my opinion, he should be able to do so without the need of worry what the rest of us may or may not think. Even if he may be "exploiting" his disease, so what?! If my child was ill with an incurable disease, you bet I'll be out there campaigning with whatever means necessary to gain attention for a cure!
None of us has the right to judge and especially not in matters such as these! How would any of us behave if we were stricken with a deadly disease for which there is no cure yet or, God forbid, one of our loved ones? I don't know to what extent I'd go to retaliate. I know this much though, if it was my child who was sick, I'd move "heaven and earth" to let the world know and fight to get the money for research!
I believe Mr. Fox is a sincere and honorable man, and he's fighting a "war" for something he believes in! He's not doing this for himself alone but also for those children and adults who may suffer with this illness in the future. I'm certain that Mr. Fox is interested in 'Stem cell' research and not 'cloning' as some seem to comment.
Mr. Limbaugh is an unfortunate swine of humanity and he's an insensitive, ignorant fool for making a public spectacle of himself about a humane issue!! Also, he should be about the last person to judge anyone considering is less than exemplary past!! Are we all so jaded that we cannot be compassionate and show an ounce of caring toward a man who is fighting for his life?! We should all be ashamed for even noticing someone so small as Mr. Limbaugh!!
To Mr. Fox I'd like to say that he has my sincerest apology for being so brutally verbally harassed and attacked and I wish him all the best in his endeavors for a successful cure one day!!

69. Mr Limbaugh should be ashamed of himself. Stem cell research is very important to Parkinson's. If Mr Limbaugh had this desease or someone in his family did he would be the first one to be calling other people, who oppose this research, names. "Walk a mile in my shoes" sums it up. Grow up Mr Limbaugh.

70. Why does anybody pay any attention to Limbaugh? How many times has he proved what he is? To me, this is the most cruel, unfeeling thing he has ever said.
Wayne Conner at 10:54PM on Oct 29th 2006
71. Rush is a freaking troll.
If you are in agreement with what he said about Fox, consider the following:
If instead of Parkinson's, the actor had a disease that caused nothing but a horrifying DISFIGUREMENT (for example, it made his skin transparent), but make-up could be used as a temporary cover-up, would you fault the actor for going without make-up to rally support for a cure?
I suspect that most people (though maybe not Rush) would not have a problem with this. Most folks would understand that the make-up would simply be masking the problem which isn't going away.
In Fox's case, the drugs simply MASK the symptoms. And having lost my dad from Parkinsons a number of years ago, I can attest to the fact that the drugs eventually lose their effectiveness.
So I don't fault Michael J Fox one iota for going off his meds in order to show people what the disease is all about.

72. I watched my mother die of this disease. I can only wish the same traumatic death on this idiot.
C. Broome at 12:53PM on Oct 25th 2006
73. You would think that a such person that gets paid good money to talk- would pick something else to talk about besides someones sickness.I wasn't aware Mr.Limbaugh was a doctor also amoung being a real a-double s.
Bea at 12:55PM on Oct 25th 2006
74. So Rush the unjailed drug abuser is again pasing judgement on others. Wow, must be great to be God -or a God appointed Republican spokesperson. Thank God I'm not one of them. (or a Democrat either for that matter)
Donn Simon at 12:56PM on Oct 25th 2006
75. What made Rush say these horrible things?
Was he on drugs???
Oh, nevermind...
