Baker Group Bailing Big Oil Out In Iraq

On Monday President Bush met with the James Baker-led Iraq study group. The panel is expected to render a report on the neocon-Bush failure in Iraq by the beginning of the year.

But the real news is that this is just another corporate ploy: It is NOT simply bailing out ever-dysfunctional Bush II. It's NOT about the demands of the American electorate that we end war in Iraq or ANYWHERE in the Middle East.

It's about saving the greedy, carnivorous interests of the OIL INDUSTRY and U.S. corporate state. Who dies or who lives in the U.S. military presence in the Middle East is irrelevant, as long as it's not rich white men.

Just look at the members of the group: With the exception of Baker, not one of them has international policy experience in the Middle East: These are corporate types -- the goal is wealth not humanity.

James Baker: "Baker ... is the Bush family consigliore,'" said Sean Evans, political science professor at Union University in Tennessee. A senior counsel as well as a major shareholder of the Carlyle Group, which has sizeable financial interests in Iraq. Moreover, Baker's law firm Baker & Botts acts on behalf of Enron.

"...Bush 43 owes his presidency to Jim Baker because of the skullduggery in Florida in 2000. He's utterly ruthless and very effective at what he does. When they [the Bushes] get into an emergency, they call Baker."

Former CIA Director Robert M. Gates: Bush nominee for Secretary of Defense. The Gates nomination ultimately serves the interests of the Texas oil companies and the military-industrial complex including the Carlyle Group. Gates manipulated the intelligence and plotted the overthrow of the country of Nicaragua, drew up plans for invading Libya, and twisted intelligence to show the Soviets were masterminds of international terrorism.

Gates escaped indictment in Iran-Contra amidst indications he was lying to cover up his own role in the affair. ... Jennifer Lynn Glaudemans, a CIA employee testified, "I think he misrepresented what was in the record of finished intelligence...

Gates was on the board of directors of VoteHere the biggest elections industry lobbyist for the Help America Vote Act (HAVA) ... HAVA was a bill sponsored by convicted Abramoff pal Bob Ney and K-street lobbyist buddy Steny Hoyer. Go to this site ... it only gets better!

Former Attorney General Edwin Meese III: Famous, but typical quote: p"You don't have many suspects who are innocent of a crime. That's contradictory. If a person is innocent of a crime, then he is not a suspect."

Meese was a tough prosecutor with little toleration for radical protest. As a result, Gov. Ronald Reagan appointed him secretary of legal affairs. Meese served as counselor to President Reagan (1981–85) before becoming Attorney General (1985–88). Questions concerning his finances and his handling of the Iran-contra affair led to his resignation in 1988.

Former U.S. Senator Alan Simpson: Long time staunch Republican ally of VP Dick Cheney. Completed serving as chair of the UW capital "Campaign For Distinction", which raised $204 million ... celebrated by the gala event, "An Extraordinary Evening", featuring George H.W. Bush (who had reportedly considered Simpson for the vice presidency in 1988) and Vice-President Richard Bruce "Dick" Cheney and wife Lynne, (who are both honored UW alumni).

A Republican U.S. Senator from 1979 to 1997. The man the VP picked.

Leon E. Panetta: Former White House Chief of Staff to Bill Clinton, a former member of the United States House of Representatives, and the founder and director of the Panetta Institute. assistant to Robert H. Finch, Secretary of the United States Department of Health, Education, and Welfare under the Nixon administration. Soon thereafter he was appointed Director of the Office for Civil Rights. Executive Assistant for John Lindsay, the Republican Mayor of New York City. He is the quintessential moderate Democratic corporate strategist.

Secretary of Defense William J. Perry: Appointed deputy defense secretary by President Bill Clinton in 1993, he became defense secretary in 1994. In office, he favored the "force multiplier" philosophy of military action, holding that high-technology weaponry can overcome superior numbers on the battlefield. Founder of ESL Inc. a high technology U.S. firm engaged in software design, systems analysis and hardware development for the strategic reconnaissance marketplace. ESL primarily supplies domestic intelligence agencies, NASA and the U.S. military. Democratic Party Defense Geek.

Former Senator Charles S. Robb: Politically, Robb was a moderate, but known as a conservative Democrat. He served as Governor of Virginia from 1982 to 1986, and was later a United States Senator from 1989 until 2001. In 2004, he chaired the Iraq Intelligence Commission. Perfect Democratic Party corporate clone.

Vernon Jordan: Democratic Party Corporate State heavy hitter – former Clinton executive, ex- Head of the Urban League who left to join Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP, one of the world's largest law firms with principle Robert Strauss Co-founder a former chairman of the Democratic National Committee. Token Clinton-era moderate, Democratic Party operative.

Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor: Moderate Republican Conservative: Nominated by President Reagan as Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court on July 7, 1981. Token woman and conservative jurist.
