In the classic novel Frankenstein, Mary Shelly wrote of a scientist who created a monster. That monster eventually turned on his creator. An updated version of that story is occurring as we speak.
When Cindy Sheehan first came to our attention, she was a mother grieving over the loss of her son Casey in Iraq. She was anti-war, she claimed, so that other mothers would not feel the pain she was. She was everywhere and on TV nearly every night. The Democrats courted her and she fell for them in a big way. She became obsessed with publicity.
Then something funny happened, Ms. Sheehan showed what her true thoughts were. She was seen kissing and hugging Hugo Chavez, she camped out in Crawford, TX and she became a near parody of what most thought she was. She got away with it all thanks to her enablers on the left and her "absolute moral authority." Other military moms were not so quick to follow her lead. That was the point at which Democrats realized they had an election approaching and Sheehan was no longer an asset politically, she became a liability.
Cindy Sheehan took her anger out again yesterday, but this time it was directed at the Democrats on their first day back in power (video here):
"We didn't put you in power to work with the people that have been murdering hundreds of thousands of people since they have been in power," Sheehan said. "We put you in power to be opposition to them finally and we're the ones who put them in power."
Rep. Rahm Emanuel, D-Ill., cut the press conference short when protests drowned out his voice through a dozen microphones set up to record his comments. Emanuel said Democrats would go back to the caucus room and return later.
This question has been asked myriad times, including by me, What direction will the Democrats take? They were brought to power on an anti-war wave, will they ride that wave and pull out of Iraq, or will they take the realistic long view and finish the job. Cindy Sheehan could make them very uncomfortable should they not choose the former.

46. If Scheehan has alot to say and preach about she needs to realise her son Gave up His life for His country like so many others who gladly gave there lives for our country. As American's we are so quick to judge a little over 3000 dead as a travisty, Remeber that this was the amount in one hit to our TradeCenter on our soil we have just recently toped that amount in all the years in Iraq. The News reports the america soilders deaths and granted all should be remembered, including those that fought during the earlier wars WWII korea, and vietnam where more than 500 soilders died per day. Has America gotten to expect everything done quickly? War isn't about how fast you are done it is about the changes it brings. So next time Scheehan goes and opens her mouth and complains about the loss of her son's life she needs to remeber he lost his life fighting for what he thought was right defense of human rights even those that protect his mothers free speach.

47. I think cindy sheehan, need to stop and reflect on what her actions say about her.Her son casey raised his right hand when he joined the army and said, yes! " i am a man of honor,i will do my best to serve and protect.I will put my personal beliefs aside and do what those in charge think is best." Casey made a promise and he kept it. he is a man of honor and deserves are respect.my question of cindy is this! do you think your son was to stupid to know what he was doing? or did you raise him with the wrong set of values?

48. I'm sorry that Cindy Sheehan lost her son in a war. I'm with her when it comes to how this war has been managed. I would like to see an end to this and all wars. Perhaps we cannot impose democracy on a former dictatorship at the point of a gun.
We differ, however, in that even though I object to the President's policy, I will not embrace his enemies, such as Hugo Chavez. He is our president, right or wrong, and there are channels to be taken through Congress if the people believe he has committed "high crimes and misdemeanors" or if he is unable to fulfill the duties of office because of ill health.
The will of the people should be able to influence the policies of its government, or else we are under a totalitarian state ourselves, with no right to lecture the Iraqis about democracy and freedom.

49. People here are saying, Cindy needs to realize her son sacrificed his life for his country and she is desecrating his memory. You are wrong on both counts.
He did not sacrifice his life for his country, none of the soldiers in Iraq did, sorry to burst your bubble. He sacrificed his life for Halliburton, for Exxon,Mobile, and for a group of neo cons (ex sixties liberals)and their ill fated dream of an American empire. She is not desecrating his sacrifice. You desecrate his sacrifice by continuing this phoney war and worshipping at the boots of this phoney president. I have spoken to many vets from Iraq. They know they've been had.
Cindy Sheehan, one woman, had the guts to take on these monsters in the Republican party when all the so called "Democrats" were running for cover and wrapping themselves in the flag to save their sorry asses. She has more guts than the entire democratic party. And we are still waiting for the Fuhrer's answer to her question: "What noble cause did my son die for." Someone tell me what noble cause any of the 3000 died for. So we can install a Shiite Islamic Republic right next door to the Shiite Islamic Republic of Iran.
What a bunch of screw ups we have in this government, and you people supporting them, afraid to say the emperor has no clothes.
You are cowards where she is a heroine.
And the Dems will wrap themselves in the flag again and do nothing. Greens wake up, 2008 is your year. Libertarians wake up, 2008 is your year. Conservatives and liberals alike disgusted with the two major parties.

I agree with you on one thing..Bush DID say when he was running for President that he planned on finding a way into Iraq. You are right. So there are NO excuses for those Democrats who wrapped themsevles in the flag and then later said "Well, I had no idea what he was going to do with that money." Any idiot that listened to this jerk during the campaign knew exactly what his evil plans were. Iraq should have come as a surprise to no one. But 90% of American voters DON'T pay attention. They are too worried about gays and prayer in school and such NONSENSE. This evil man used the tragedy of 9-11 to execute his ill fated evil plan. Now we will be just one more would be empire left on the scrap heap of the middle east.

51. This is interesting to read everyone's comments. In respect to our freedom of speech and not meaning to be critical of anyone, I have a comment for Dan Blanchard-You bring up the very valid point about the tens of thousands of men and women who have died to protect our freedoms then you tell everyone to shut up. I guess I'm not real clear on your thought process here. Care to explain?
