The best man for the Republican nomination isn't even running. Former senator and current fictitious district attorney on Law and Order, Fred Thompson is by far the best candidate.
His resume consists of a law degree from Vanderbilt university, Assistant US District Attorney, worked on the Watergate hearings, served as special counsel to Lamar Alexander when he was Governor of Tennessee and eventually was elected to finish out Al Gore's term in the Senate in the biggest landslide in Tennessee history and was reelected to a complete term in 1996.
He decided not to run in 2002, he was a sure winner had he decided to pursue another term. He instead went back to acting and has played the DA's role on L & A for several years now.
He's a people person and a Conservative.
He's brilliant as shown when he absolutely eviscerated uber-lib Mike Farrell in 1993 on Meet the Press. He's not afraid to speak his mind as he did last week when talking about the changes in strategy on the Iraq War:
I'll bet that a lot of folks who support the president on this are asking themselves "what if we'd taken care of business this way two years ago?"
So, Thompson has kept his toes in the water by assisting President Bush in getting John Roberts confirmed and writes at NRO on a regular basis. He's recognizable, has no discernible baggage and would be a commanding presence in the White House. Let's face it, at 6' 6" and with great pipes, the guy looks and sounds presidential.

61. Fred Thompson is the right person to run for President. He has an impressive resume, a voting record to back up his positions on national issues, and a strong leadership presence. I hope he announces his bid to run soon. He has a volunteer in Indiana.

62. I wrote to Fred Thompson two years ago, to plead for him to run for prsident in 2008. After looking at what the dem's were projecting ie Hillary Clinton and the like, and looking at the republicans with no one to offer up but the same old same old, I new it was time way back then in order to crush the clintons it would take Fred Thompson to do that. Now I would like to work in his campaign, but I don't know the cirrent address to let him and or his staff know. If you have a way to get in touch, please email me. Thanks edward Poche

63. I have been undecided and unimpressed by the current list of potential Republican candidates. Today I have made the decision to fully and wholeheartedly suppport Mr. Thompson as the Republican candidate for President of the United States. His candor, intellengence and character reminds me so much of Ronald Reagan. I encourage as many individuals as possible to encourage Fred Thompson to run. He can win!

65. Fred Thompson is a combination of Reagan, Churchill, Franklin D. Roosevelt and Truman. He brings us back to a time when we could trust our leaders. I pray Fred Thompson will run for President for the sake of our Country.

66. Fred Thompson probably the best the Republican Party has to offer. I am not a wealthy man. But if Fred Thompson will run for President, I will donate all the funds I can afford and devote as much time as possible to his campaign. I have no plans to actively work for any other candidate.

70. Fred Thompson for president!
Many people say that Fred would not be a good choice for President because he is not a career politician. On the contrayry, that makes him the BEST man for the job. In fact, at this point, he's the ONLY candidate I'd vote for. Rudy, although he handled 9-11 with compassion and professionalism, in my opinion, did what ANY mayor of NY would have done. And I do not believe Rudy speaks for most concervatives in the country. John McCain is just plain scary. He's the first successful cross between an elephant and a donkey.
Fred, please run! Give us the opportunity to vote FOR someone, not simply against the lefties.

75. I like Fred Thompson's inteligence and comon sense attitude. We do not need another wishy-washy person or one of questionable character as the leader of the free world. Wisdom and common sense
with strength of convictions sums up my opinion of Fred Thompson.
