Thanks to this post at ElephantBiz, it's now obvious that all current GOP candidates will blow away and Fred Thompson will step in to save the day. OK it's not that obvious, but there are many admirers of the former senator from Tennessee, including this Web site.
Hotline on Call quotes the WH Bulletin:
Thompson, the former Tennessee Republican senator who's now a Law & Order prosecutor and regular replacement for radio host Paul Harvey, is being urged by supporters to consider entering the presidential race, according to associates. "The draft Fred movement is growing," says one ally. They say that Thompson is flattered by the suggestions, but it is unclear if he is turning away their appeals. The effort is growing among conservative blogs, where several boards are pushing the folksy straight-talker to get in.But then throws cold water all over the idea:
Most importantly, Sen. John McCain is one of Thompson's best friends. They talk regularly. A source close to Thompson said that Thompson will not run for president, period. But what if McCain faded? This is more a symptom of certain conservatives in the party looking at the current field and realizing that there is no conservative hero among them. The only solution then is to draft one. Huckabee and Brownback don't have the stature and gravitas that Fred Thompson exudes without even trying. Unfortunately Senator Thompson has never indicated much of a desire to be president.
If McCain fades sure, Thompson could step in but don't bet on it. what I'm wondering is that given Rudy's liberal record on things, will there be a conservative Stop Rudy campaign coalescing to draft a champion? Just because conservatives can handle Rudy's liberal values doesn't mean they like it. All things equal, they'd rather have Rudy's qualities plus a social conservative as well.
Fred Thompson may not be the only one to face a draft.

316. Look at the commments !!! Hard for the Liberal to get a voice in OR for that matter, find ways to criticize Mr Thompson !!! There are Liberal refereencs to movies, Hollywood, casting choices. Good shot - NOT ! Just remember, half the financial power of your party is HOLLYWOOD ! And a comment about voting history for Mr Thompson. A Senator may OR may not vote for OR against a bill due NOT TO HIS/HER FEEELINGS on the TITLE SUBJECT of the bill, BUT for the PORK that is attached to the bill ! Just because someone votes against say the "Homeless Act" doesnt mean he/she is against helping the Homeless ! But, that's what you'll HEAR and READ ! They have the GUTS to actually VOTE NO AGAINST all of the added Pork Expeditures that are hindden in the bill in order to get another Senators support. OH GOD ! He hates Homeless !!
The biggest ISSUE in American Politics is the shear IGNORANCE that 80% of the Population has of the system itself ! THEY aren't going to educate you Dummy, you have to educate yourself. The Press and the Career Politicians have TOO MUCH to lose if you ever found out ! Make sure you have the facts, ALL of the facts, before judging any voting records available. Some of those reps actually have the gonnads to say NO ! ANOTHER reason for Line Item Veto ! Look it up !

317. Quote:"I won't vote for anyone, Democrat or Republican, that will keep us in Iraq. I don't think there is a Republican that will get us out of there and there are some of the Dems who will not either."
By Lynne...
Ok, what part of this do you people not get. Leaving Iraq will mean terror in the streets of America. Iraq was not about WMD although WMD was a part of it. It was about what the president said right after we were attacked. "IF you are not with us YOU are against us."
Sadam Hussein supported Terror. Sadam Hussein had Al Queda in his country.
EVERY TIME the Democrats talk about leaving MORE attacks occur and more people die. Leaving is what Al Queda and the terrorists want. They plan their attacks around the defeatist legislation and the news media.
Give them a victory and we will no again know peace in our life time. WHAT PART OF THIS DO YOU NOT GET????????????????????//

319. If McCain wants the nomination he should have Fred Thompson stump for him, planning to take the VP position upon McCain's nomination. Doctor Bob...invasion from the South? America First...didn't we try that during WWII? Maybe if American workers were willing to do the labor that our southern neighbors are willing to do, we would not have an issue with this invasion. As a young man, I worked in LA along side many people here illegally. All they want is a chance for a better life and are willing to work hard for it. A value lost to many born here.

320. Please, Fred, please run for President. Give us one candidate with enough spine to take a position and stick with it.

321. I would love to see Fred Thompson run for President. He would give every candidate out there a run for their money and is just what the United States of America needs at this time in history. He would gain the United States respect in the world again by not negotiating with Islamist terrorists. He would lead the fight to the enemy, those who are hell bent on taking over the western world and destroying our way of life and while doing so take every Christian and Jew and any other religions that do not sumbit to Islam out, either by forced means and if that fails by mass murder. This is like no other enemy, he is a patient enemy, he wants to die and he gets brownie points for taking us with him. Fred Thompson is unlike our Democatic Congress and Senate and those Democrats running for the President, who would prefer to (cut and run from our enemies)and insist that Iraq is part and parcel of the war against Radical Islamic Facists, with no other strategy to offer except, providing a withdrawal date for our enemies. In the event that desecallation were to be implemented it would be a distaster and would allow Iran to contol Iraq and would become a breeding groud for Al-Qa'ida and countless of millions of innocent people would loose their lives. Al-Qa'ida would set up a Caliphate (Their headquarters on earth to rule from). Oh yes, has anyone noticed that in the last 10 days, Britian has had 15 sailors taken(Hostage)by Iran. Wake up America. In order to save the Western World we must deal once and for all with this terrorist regime. A regime that has plaqued us since 1979 and until today is reqruiting terrorists all over the world (yes in our country, we won't see the cells until they are activated. This must happen before shariah law becomes the law of our land. Don't think this can't happen. Remember these are the folks that deny the holocust ever happened. You go Nancy Pelosi and negotiate with Syria. Another group of folks that have raised their children to believe that Christian and Jews are apes and pigs.
Good Luck to us all. God Bless America

322. The Republican Party does not have a candidate that
has a broad enough appeal to draw votes from both parties. I think that John McCain will still be standing after the shake down starts but he's not as strong as I'd like him to be. I've listened to Fred Thompson in TV interviews and I was very impressed with him. I think that he would have broad appeal to both parties and he has the right look and demeanor to be president. I'd like to know more about where he stands on the issues. If that clicks I think he has a good chance to go to the head of the line. Rudy may appeal to some but I don't think he's handled his private life well
enough, especially with his children, and he is
a bit too liberal for broad appeal.

323. I would vote for Fred Thompson any day and it has nothing to do with his T.V.career---He is an honest plain spoken American and a breath of fresh air in the midst of the muck and mire that we are offered by other candidates.--The tired old party lines being perpetuated by most of them --Democrat and Republican should be boring most of us to tears.-and here is a NEWS FLash ---"everything isnt Bush's fault" The trouble is that most Americans have forgotten that sick feeling and the anger we all had on Sept 11,2001 -that is the main reason this war is going and by the way was voted for by most of the clowns now running for President.I believe that any one of them would have done the same thing had they been in office that day and if they claim that they wouldnt ---theyre just LIARS.I for one was standing at the foot of the Brooklyn Bridge trying to help the poor dust covered felloow Americans of mine to somew kind of aid after they found a way to escape that horror---and I have not forgotten or will I ever ---the look on those faces that day ---the war must be finished in a way that saves ans many loives as possible to do so sends a message that we cant be trusted ---and sadly thats just thye way it would appear

327. I wish Bush would throw in the towel and pull all troops all over the world not just the middle east and put them on all four sides of the country and tell the world to kiss it and tell them that the dems wanted it and they do speak for the people and then watch the dems crawfish about pulling out of anyplace

328. President G.W.Bush is already being tapped for one of the finest Presidents who has held the office due to the fact that no other President has had to face the terrorist's,the economy and the uneducated public outcry when a great nation as the U.S. and it's allies are in WAR.Some of the American public seem's to believe that war's are like a John Wayne movie. The happy ending does not take place in front of your eye's.It take's years for new founded freedoms to work in nation's that changed their whole government system to a Democracy with the help of the U.S. and it's allies. The pundints will lose and the rightous silent majority will win in the end.GOD BLESS AMERICA&it's ALLIES

330. I would support a Fred Thompson/Colin Powell ticket. Both men come off as sincere and not self serving, which is more than I can say for most politicians. I am dubious about people who want high office. The best ones have to be drafted - we need men who shun self agrandisement and put our counrty first. A Thompson/Powell ticket would give us both political and military talent. Their stature and demeanor would give us credibility around the world. They would be strong but diplomatic enough to be accepted on the international stage where our image has been so badly tarnished.
