Could it be the start of something big? Might it only be a matter of time before rural municipalities in Alabama and Kansas follow suit? Don't hold your breath. Vermonters are a proud group, known for their independence, their ice cream, and Socialist Senator, so it shouldn't come as a surprise that they're out front on the impeachment issue. And while this story will be easy for some to laugh off as nothing more than an idea "firmly outside the political mainstream," it does come on what is shaping up to be a particularly bad week for the White House.

17. We entered this war because the president of the USA would not listen to common sense advise and no plan of how to carry out the mission and end the war. Now we are responsible for destroying the intrstructure of the country, killing many American men and women and also many innicent men , women and children in the process of trying to control a civil war within Iraq. It is disgraceful that we have sacrificed so many lives and so many men and women injuried and we have no plan to end this war and bring our people home. It is a sad day we have come to when a semi retarded man (George Bush) can buy his way to the Presidency of the USA and lead our land down the road of horrofic debt, and keep getting away with it. What ever happen to the "silent majority". Isn't it about time for the "silent majority" to speak out against the coruption and down right "sell out" going on not only in the president's office, the vice prresident's office and congress in general.

20. The people of Vermont should pass laws that protect there children from molester;s and rapests, and impeach the judges that let child predators walk with a slap on the wrist. Not be believing everything there liberal press put;s in front of them, and wanting to impeach our president, that has kept us free from attacks for 6 years.Leaving Iraq would be the biggest mistake this country ever made.

21. One additional comment on all of this.
We can't simply blame the current administration for all the failures that led to 09-11-01.Though Bush knew it was going down in advance and did nothing to stop it,the USA has setup these failures long ago by supporting terrorists to do our dirty political foreign policy. Many forget that the USA fully supported individuals like AlQuaida to repel the former Soviet Union as it tried to invade Afghanistan. We supplied financial aid and military supplies to Osama bin Ladem, Saddam, and others to repel Iran, and we financed Syrias military also.We have a very long history of financing individuals we today call terrorists to achieve goals of yesteryear that came back to bite us in the ass today.
Our government is highly corrupted and a majority of Congress and the White House is bought and paid for by special interest groups.
Any of you ever wonder why we have never elected a poor person or woman for president? Why have we not elected an African American? Corruption-that is why.
Granted-I believe that our Democracy works better than any form of government, we have a long road to go before Democracy is just for all.
If we spent as much money on fixing Americas infrastructure-as Bush/Cheney have borrowed from other countries like China since they were elected-we would be in a far better place than we are today.
When we gather together as a nation united-we can replace all those who have corrupted our political system and stained our Constitution and trampled our Bill of Rights.
We need a new world order in America-a clean sweep in Congress and the elimination of liars and cheats in the oval office.

22. I can't believe there's anyone left that thinks that President Bush and his merry men are anything but idiots. I kept waiting for the American people I know and love to catch on to this idiot and throw him out. The people of Vermont have finally got up the gumption to at least talk about it; but because we can't prove that Bush had sex with anyone but his long-suffering wife, everything else he does is great! This man has been more distructive of America than any other president in my time (and I'm over sixty). I remember when we said that if Bush got elected you wouldn't even know America any more when he got done. Unfortunately, it's not just America but the entire world!

23. This would not fly down here in my city, which probably has as many voters as the STATE of Vermont. LOL We'd probably vote to push Vermont out of the Union.
LOL
"Impeach."
How ludicrous of those people.

24. Someone else said it as well, it it was a democrat doing this, you wouldn't be complaining.

25. Impeach Bush, he lied and he is using our tax dollars to fund a lie... and for those people out there, we should pull our troops home. Why in Gods name would anyone ever support a lie. We have nothing to finish over there except to leave the region. I'm sorry I fully support my troops but I cannot support my troops to endorse a lie from my president. He has lied to all of us. He is a criminal and should be tried for his crimes. You can not deliberatley lie to America or engage into a war putting American lives in harms way for your own political agenda. Didn't he say he would fire whoever leaked the info ... he and Cheney both leaked information. North Korea at the same time was jumping up and down saying they have nukes when Iraq was saying they did not yet we invaded an innocent country and left Korea completely alone and why? Korea has no oil. Saddam may have been a jerk to his people but he did not have any part of 911 or the killing of american lives. Bush and Cheney deliberatley manipulated intelligence information to spin America into a costly war. We could have rebuilt New Orleans 10 times over but our president does not have our concerns or welfare in mind. He should be put on trial for his crimes both him and Cheney since both of them did say ... "We do not know who leaked the information but whoever had leaked the information would be personally fired!" What they did to her was treasonous I believe and I think he should submit his resognation. If she would have been a cop and the police chief had done this to a detective who was undercover, internal affairs would be all over them ... no matter who you are if you brake the law you must and will be held accountable. Honesty, Integrity and the law of the land. This is what our country was built on lets continue our Americn way of life and punish those who do not obey our justice system. For when you breech security and put a CIA agents position and life at risk there is no limits that a person will go to achieve their own individual goals even if it is at the cost of the American public.

26. Big surprise=NOT! I knew if I was able to stick around long enough sooner or later American's, the people of these- UNITED STATES or the USA, (note; not homeland which is too dangerously close to fatherland a fascist designate, to suite this writer), would in the main finally admit, we have been misled, lied to and sold into this debacle.
Knowing that the past is behind us and therefore it does no good to bemoan what has already occurred, I will not say "I told you so!" though I certainly did.
Those who voted to rubber stamp the power of this most disastrous of administrations were led to believe a pack of LIES. Repeatedly it's been shown that there was no nexus between the events of 9/11 and Iraq.
Iraq was selected as a fairly soft target by the neo-con/military industrial complex knowing it did not even possess an air-force for its' own defense, a personal vendetta for those of the previous, though somewhat less awful buSH era. Of course Saddam's bravado did not help any and after Powell's carefully crafted presentation to the Untied Nation's it certainly appeared that an immanent threat existed. Which it did NOT! (at least not from that nation)
Further, this junta, now still in power in our nations capitol, purposely and repeatedly use their bully pulpit to further their agenda, putting to use vitriol against those who dare express dissent with their agenda, a goal of split and polarize to conquer. Put another way, Cheney and his mob could arguably be seen as treasonous criminals.
Impeachment hearings at this point must be mandatory. Our representatives one after the other in congress have consistently stated that they were misled by the 'intelligence' provided by our nations leader. that intel was cherry picked, fabricated and edited to suite their purpose for the sale to the world of this wholly unnecessary war.
Yes, now that we stupidly have situated ourselves into the midst of the middle east sectarian/cultural mess, something which prior to this arrogantly poorly strategized debacle we had carefully avoided, for what now seems obvious reasons to all.
geoWge and gang's power hungry madness must be rendered nugatory ASAP. To wait risks unknown further disaster.
Yes my fellow citizens, apparently what some of us understood long ago is now patently clear to the majority of us, and for that I can say, gee - it's great to be alive and living in these, OUR UNTIED STATES.

27. All that is said,The true shall set us free as a nation!I agree that steps should be taken to get Bush and Cheney out of office, Our fellow brothers and sisters can't pay the national debit off in 10 years at this rate! The congress needs to make italso standard that the popular vote elects the President. If that would have taken place we wouldn't ne here in this postion in the first place!! The constitution states, For the People , By the People!

30. Response to Ginger:
Who do we think we are forcing another country to decide how to live? We never should have went to Iraq in the first place. We are one of the most powerful countries in the world. We need to take better care of our own people and learn from other countries who have been through war before - history will repeat itself if we can't at least learn from somebody else!
