Could it be the start of something big? Might it only be a matter of time before rural municipalities in Alabama and Kansas follow suit? Don't hold your breath. Vermonters are a proud group, known for their independence, their ice cream, and Socialist Senator, so it shouldn't come as a surprise that they're out front on the impeachment issue. And while this story will be easy for some to laugh off as nothing more than an idea "firmly outside the political mainstream," it does come on what is shaping up to be a particularly bad week for the White House.

31. While I back Vermont in wanting to impeach Bush and Cheney, not only for the crimes stated but for environmental horrors that Bush and Cheney implemented that could do serious damage to the ecosystem of our world and potentially kill millions or billions of people, people are blinded to the fact that Saddam DID have WMDs and DID use them. These WMDs were not nuclear, nor were they biological like anthrax. What he used he used against everyone on the planet, and he knew the effect it would bring. He used them during the first Gulf War. What was this WMD he used?
Oil.
Billions of gallons of oil burned when Saddam set the oil fields on fire. This released more global warming elements into the atmosphere than all the cars across the globe could emit in a decade.I lived in San Diego at the time, and even there the effects of the burning oil fields could be seen. It was a global catastrophy that few even realize. Saddam attempted to murder the world. And looking at the state the world is in now, he did a pretty good job. From thunder and lightning during a snowstorm in the northern midwest to tornados in the winter time to constant hurricanes brutalizing the coast, the weather of the world has changed. Everyone who owns a car or uses electricty is at fualt for this, but not on the scale that Saddam is. Had it not been for him, these changes may not have come for another hundred years. Saddam had his weapon and used it,and now we are paying the price for it.
However, in this environmental atrocity, Mr. Bush and his cabinet are nearly as sinister to blame as Saddam is. Bush cancled a law stating factories had to clean up the emissions they were putting in our air. Bush allowed people to tear away wetlands and cut down forests that are vital to cleaning our air and supplying us with oxygen.
While Bush himself may be as dumb as a mud brick, we can't say that about everyone in his little political group. They knew the damage Bush was doing but they didn't care. They got millions in kickbacks from the companies who would otherwise have had to change their ways of doing things. The Bush administration, in essence, allowed the death and destruction of our children and/or our children's children over some floppy pieces of cloth we call money.
Should Bush and Cheney be impeached? Yes. Should they be tried for crimes against humanity? Most definately.
Will they be forced to face the concequences of their actions without the American people as a whole standing up as a unified group? Probably not.
We, as a people, each and every one of us, must use our voice and show terroristic warmongers like Bush and Cheney that we will not tolerate wht they have done, and send a message to every president from here on out. Either you do what is right, what is just and what is humane, or you will will be taken down by the American people.
It is our time now. Let's make our voice be heard.

32. I couldn't agree more with Vermont. The war was planned for Iraq before 9/11. And 9/11 had nothing to do with Iraq!

33. It seems to me that a awful lot of republicans
who voted Bush into office take no offence to the
many incredibly incompetent things his administration have subjected us to. I was of the
opinion that he was going to be good for our nation
but do all the things that Republicans do that annoy me. He all did that but displayed enough incompetence to ruin all the really important
matters facing us(Katrina & Iraq to name 2).
I think the people of Vermont many who voted for him are sick of the bumbling and are calling him
on it. So how dare you belittle them for being sick of the incomptence. I think it's just a peek
of what the final years of his term will produce.

34. Why is it we're the only country who goes out of it's way to "help" another country? No other country did it until we did.
Christina at 1:28PM on Mar 7th 2007
35. Ha ha ha! I find it hilarious people actually STILL support Bush! I find most folks who do so are generally thick headed, stubborn, and don't like to admit they were wrong... sound familiar, doesn't it!
I am a republican, and I do not support this President.

36. I too want to comment on Ginger! I hope
you haven't reproduced yet because the
idiots produced would be supreme idiots
Stephen Cummings at 1:36PM on Mar 7th 2007
37. Why are we the only country (idiots) who believe we should "help" other countries? No other country would have done it! Certainly NOT for ANY type of __WAR__ or loss of countless lives!!!!!! Stupid! And people wonder why people like me don't vote!!!

38. A real Democracy takes a long time.America should first set the example by becomming one-before shoving the idealism of it down the unwilling throats of other nations.
Had we waited for the United Nations to act and fully support an invasion into Iraq-perhaps the war would have ended already.
Ginger was right. We have far too many idiots in America-including President Bush and his sidekick Cheney.
part of our Democracy states that we as individuals have the right of free speech and to oppose our government when we see our leaders act like bumbling idiots, fools, and act in contempt to overthrow Americas best interests and pelace them with their own corrupted ones.
These two has trashed the Bill of Rights, the Geneva Convention, our own Constitution, yet many Americans are refusing to see any of the harm that has been done and refuse to think for themselves or speak freely. They only want to say good job Mr President-regardless of what is said and done.
I say-we need to get better leadership for America
While respecting your views about supporting the Presidency-I too, have my views that we have a lieing, cheating, loser as President-and I favor impeachment over 2 more years of fool hardy decision making that puts America up as the number one target for world terrorist attacks in the future.
I have no political experience-yet know I could easily do a better job than these two nitwits in office combined.Perhaps if I too, were a billionaire I could run for office. But I am not wealthy,so in our Democracy-I am eliminated, because only the rich upper class can run for office and win in our form od Democracy.

39. I'm not surprised at Vermont. The majority were always Democratic freaks. They claim that Bush lied when both US & British intelligence agreed that there were weapons.
I'm also not surprised that the majority of Vermont wants to cut and run.

40. I have read the above comments of both sides. I must say, the obvious Republican comments are far more offensive and leaning toward violence in their remarks.
People have very short memories. When Ronald Reagan was in office, he proceeded to close down all the City Hospitals across the country, one by one, leaving the poor people no place to turn for medical help. When the air traffic controllers went on strike, he fired them all and hired less than competent people to replace them (who are now "playing games" with incoming aircraft). This weakened the unions all across the country. When George Bush, Sr. took office, he proceeded to finish closing down all the City Hospitals.
Now that his son is in office, all he knows how to do is spend our tax dollars wildly and uncontrollably, like a kid in a candy store, wanting so much to be a hero in the eyes of the world, but bungling very badly.
When Bill Clinton was in office, he managed to erase the national debt and have a SURPLUS in the Social Security Fund. What do we have now? A very real threat that some of us may not have any Social Security in the too near future.
Democrats are generally more diplomatic when it comes to resolving issues with other countries. Democrats are much better at trying to talk things out rather than going in with both barrels and a "shoot first, ask questions later" attitude.
I remember presidents all the way back to Eisenhower, and I have never seen a president more like a tyrant than George W. Bush.
Yes, I say Impeach him!

41. Eject the Peoples' Republic of Vermont from the Union. Judging from the pictures with the original article, the old folks in Vermont forgot to take their meds. I'm an old folk!
Bob Ives at 9:27PM on Mar 7th 2007
42. Yes, Gloria the liberals are generally more diplomatic, another word for appeasers. Bill Clinton did not have 9/11,we were attacked, remember that Gloria,Im sure you were one of the "loyal Americans"wanting justice for the over 3000 who lost there lives.Or did you want a diplomatic approch, like when Clinton did nothing when the Cole was attacked, when our embassy was attacked, when the World trade Center was attacked in 1993.etc etc.You remember President Eisenhower do you remember during his time in office the people in America got BOTH sides of the story, from the press? Do you remember when we had people that actually frouned apon killing unborn babies? Times have changed,we live in a dangerious world, people in this world hate America, not because we attacked Iran, but because we are FREE,free to do and say as we please, like Sen.John Edwards saying that Jesus would be appalled at the leaders of America.Im sure he means himself, with all his millions how is he helping the poor? he has homes the size of football fields,he supports the slaughter of unborn babies, his advisors are anti Christ.Gloria, perhaps another attack on America will open your eyes, but this time the attack may close your eyes, and the eyes of many of your liberal friends.

43. How does anyone ever come the conclusion that our troops in Iraq are fighting for our freedom? Our ferrdom was never threatened. Bush wanted to finish what he thought his father should have done in the Gulf War. So he found a way to frighten the American people to back him up on invading Iraq, against his fathers advise. His father had more sense knowing what an invasion of Iraq could possibly result in. Da, and now that is what the troops in Iraq are faced with. Bush had no idea what he was going to have to deal with before he decided to invade a country with so many factions.
And this is the leader of our country???
Doris at 3:21PM on Mar 7th 2007
44. Amazing that right wingers get upset at an example of real democracy. Agree or not about impeachment, vermont is merely doing what it has done since the 1700's----- town meeting and discussions. Some of the other hatefull comments do not merit a response. And, by the way, our constitution calls for public trials of indicted people and a jury's verdict. Libby has been convicted----get over it---even if he was a fall guy---he perjured himself tryiong to protect Cheney and Rove. Too bad they will never stand trial for this sad episode. Didn't our President promise to fire anyone in the White House involved in this? Testimony clearly implicated (but did not convict) those two. Come on W, follow throuugh and fire at least Rove! Cheney we are stuck with.
Richard at 3:15PM on Mar 7th 2007
45. I go back as far as F.D. Roosevelt, one of the best and this Bush, that is no more than a shrub, is the worst. He should be responsible for over the 3000 deaths and God knows how many wounded and all the lives he has changed.
