Fred Thompson vs. Gandhi

Currently, I'm ambivalent about Fred Thompson but that will change fast if he keeps writing more op-eds like this. Fred takes on the anti-war protesters and openly mocks their insistence on the Gandhi gambit, pointing out the fatal flaw:
And that's a pretty good question. At what point is it okay to fight dictators like Saddam or the al Qaeda terrorists who want to take his place?

It turns out that the answer, according to Gandhi, is NEVER. During World War II, Gandhi penned an open letter to the British people, urging them to surrender to the Nazis. Later, when the extent of the holocaust was known, he criticized Jews who had tried to escape or fight for their lives as they did in Warsaw and Treblinka. "The Jews should have offered themselves to the butcher's knife," he said. "They should have thrown themselves into the sea from cliffs." "Collective suicide," he told his biographer, "would have been heroism."
Gandhi's methods are terribly effective against decent humane civilizations like the United Kingdom as MLK proved in the 60's with the civil rights movement. But if you are up against an enemy who cares nothing about human life, you simply die.

Gandhi would have us all march over to the closest al-Qaida terrorist and offer ourselves prostrate to their bullets. Maybe that's what the anti-war protesters want to do, but for me personally? No thanks.

This is one more little bit of evidence that Fred Thompson is indeed running for president. He obviously has a low disregard for the Cindy Sheehans and such that are dragging the Democratic party to the left. If he runs he could do something about that.
