Tom Tancredo, darling of the immigration reformers, announced he would run for the Oval Office:
Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-Colo.) formally announced Monday that he is running for president and said his campaign would be focused on combating illegal immigration.
"I am running for president to give Americans a voice, to win this fight [on illegal immigration]," Tancredo said in his announcement address on an Iowa talk-radio show.
Thanks Tom. The platform of combating illegal immigration will not be enough to win over the American public. Of course, I'm for immigration reform, yet you are a one-issue candidate, ala John Edwards, and no one can win on one issue.
I've often wondered why candidates such as Tancredo, Tommy Thompson and others think they even have a shot. On the Republican side you have heavy hitters like Giuliani, McCain and the real Thompson who has a shot -- Fred. On the donk side you have Hillary and Obama. No one else even measures up (and I'm not quite sure those two do).
First Tom, you announced on a radio show in Iowa. Granted it's a state that candidates go to every four years and grovel for votes, but jeez, at least announce at the border or something. Second, you have absolutely no name recognition among the American people.
I would equate the Tommy Thompson camapign with the Michael Dukakis fiasco of 1984. Sure Dukakis won the primaries, he then got pummeled by the Gipper in the general.
The only real Republican announcement is the long-awaited one by Chuck Hagel saying he will wait another 90-days before he may or may not announce.

2. Tom T can win and is not a 1 platform candidate. He is a strick constructionist of the Constitution and knows that abortion is not a power delegated to the federal gov. thus no federal laws.
Tom knows that freedom of speech means politicians should not make laws to stop people exposing their faults. He knows that we must support our troops or get them out of harms way. very important Tom is not a hermorphadyte democrat in disguise

3. As a Republican I can only add that if you use hermaphrodyte in a sentence, at least use it correctly.
Wait, never mind. If you use it, you just make yourself a non-entity in the conversation.

4. Bravo Tom!
I was born in the late forties when unions were strong. My dad worked as an electrian and served an apprentship to become properly skilled in his trade. My mother stayed home and raised us which was a full time job. We were never rich but comfortable. My ancestors came here legally from Sweden & Germany through Ellis Island. They were so grateful to be in this new land of opportunities. They learned english as well as their children did. Unfortunatley this type of pride ended decades ago.

5. Up until recently I was done with the republican party. George Bush has proved to be a wolf in sheeps clothing. He panders to all of the south of the border governments, panders to corporate america, panders to the 20 million plus ILLEGAL ALIENS and has bent, twisted and ignored OUR constitution. Tom Tancredo gives me hope. He is consistent. He is more than a one issue candidate. While most "professional politicians" bury their heads in the sand and talk around issues, Tom takes the issues head-on. He leads while most of his peers follow. In this overly "politically correct" and "touchy-feely" world we live in, we need a Tom Tancredo to tell it the way it is!

6. Scott--While your post was amusing, the opening sentence was a bit confusing: "Tom Tancredo, darling of the immigration reformers". I don't believe that Tancredo is an immigration reformer, at least not in the same sense that Bush-Kennedy are. His plans for the border, as I understand them, are to strengthen and enforce border security (something about "provide for a common defense")and strengthen and enforce immigration laws (like sending ILLEGALS back to where they came from). Today's "immigration reformers" typically mean open the borders wider and give amnesty to those ILLEGALS already here. --Ohio, USNA.

7. My vote is so important this coming election, I am REALLY doing my homework. No rock left unturned, no Presidental website left unread, voting histories studied, alliances scrutinized, and I have even crossed the tracks and am using the same scrutiny for Democratic candidates. Tom Tancredo is pulling ahead in my search. The Immigration and Illegal Alien mess here is the most important one to me. It's not the only one, but the top one. The U.S. has the greatest threat already in place in our country and he's the ONLY one that understands that and calls it the way it is. He's the candidate America desperately needs!! I was leaning toward Mitt Romney, until I read his website yesterday, he strongly supports big corporations "harvesting the great minds from the global market". I read that and instantly dropped him off my list. Those words are verbatum what Bill Gates told Senator Kennedy in his hearing for Microsoft. That told me Romney watched that same hearing. I want a candidate who will take this WHOLE immigration mess, not just illegal aliens, but corporate as well, and take actions to turn America back to Americans. I won't waste my vote on anyone who won't do that!

8. At least he is speaking about a very serious issue to America....ILLEGAL'S. The other Canadiates avoid the subject, hoping to secure th Illegal Voters, in case they win the Nomination.....
Our current President has put America in great danger....as out current Congress.....THE ILLEGAL'S ARE TAKING OVER AMERICA! AMERICANS ARE LOOSING JOBS TO THEM, our schools are burdened with financing the education of their children, our Welfare System is over spent, our Social Security
System is in real Danger now because of the Illegals....We need LEADERS who are going to address these issues. Clinton SOLD America to CHINA, now Bush sells to Mexico!

9. Illegal alien invaders are in this country marching in our streets, waving the Mexican flag, burning and other wise defacing the American flag, telling us to go back to Europe because we are dumb ole Europeans, trashing the country with litter, causing diseases to return that were once controlled, introducing new ones, taking jobs that used to pay better, driving with no licenses and drunk -- killing innocents, roving in gangs, driving up crimes, demanding rights of citizens, putting hospitals out of business, robbing, raping, stealing, having babies they cannot afford and expecting us to pay for them as well as their health care and welfare and schooling and college -- meanwhile giving us the middle finger. Gee, why wouldn't we welcome them with open arms? GO TOMMMMMMMMM. There are many of us behind you no matter what the "mainstream" media puts out as propaganda!! GO TOM!!!

10. Tom Tancredo is a true American who is for the citizens of the United States. Big Business & Special Interest Groups DO NOT OWN this man which is why many people have never heard of him. As suggested, read Tom's voting record and Google him and you will find that Tom is a fighter for the American people and our traditions. Ask Tom a question and you will get a straight forward honest answer. I have been following Tom and donating to his campaign for several months now and will continue to donate. For any one who feels our country is in Danger of losing everything we have traditionally stood for I would highly suggest that you start donating. Obviously, since Tom is not owned by Big Business & Special Interest Groups he doesn't have the millions that the Obama's, Clinton's, Guilianni's, etc. have so he needs us all to pitch in and help. www.teamtancredo.com & www.teamamericapac.org ( I recommend you visit this sight and learn more on Illegal Immigration). Go Tom !!!!!!!!!

11. Tom Tancredo is the best Republican candidate because he isn't afraid to open the immigration "Can O'Worms". None of the rest of them will go there. Anyone who believes that illegal immigration is not going to be one of the main things that affects our country is blind, deaf and dumb.
somewhereoverthecondo at 6:23PM on Apr 5th 2007
12. The GAO reports that each illegal alien uses $32,000 each year in social services, while paying only $9,000 in local, state, and federal taxes. We have up tp 20 MILILION people living ILLEGALLY in OUR country. Make them legal? Since most are uneducated and work low paying jobs, our tax money will continue to support them! Do the math.David Walker, the Comptoller General (accountant) of the GAO has repeatedly said that Americas debts and obligations are UNSUBSTAINABLE and this nation is facing a coming finanical crisis that will be worse than the GREAT DEPRESSION! Tancredo is trying to save Americans as he GETS what is going to happen if something isn't done about open borders and illegals! Wise up!

13. I found Tom Tancredo by accident. I wasn't going to vote because all the politicians seem to be pro-illegal alien. I live and work in NY and witness the damage illegal aliens cause on a daily basis, I also saw the evilness of Giuliani first hand, now he rides the backs of dead cops and firemen (I'm a NYC police officer). I believe that the number of people strongly opposed to illegal immigrants is vastly under counted. If Tancredo can get his message out he will be a force to be reckoned with. Hopefully people will recognize Giuliani for what he is, an evil, mean spirited man who probably thanks Bin Laden daily for his popularity.

14. I was afraid to tread the comments cause the media makes it sound like everyone wants a path to citizenship. I am plesantly surprised that all of you agree with me and many people that I know. I can not tell you of all the ways that i have been affected by ILLEGALS, It is a crying shame what our goverment has allowed to happen to this country. I am a supporter of Tom's. Some Americans are turning a blind eye to the effects of the illegals. I know alot of them live in million dollar homes and send their kids to private schools so they do not see the effects as much as hard working people like me. This is my #1 issue. Go TOM!!!!!

15. Go Tom Go. I agree with you 100 percent on our Illegal problems in this country. I know the Mexicans wish to come to this great country of ours but there are people all over the world that have the same wishes. I served this great country for 20 years in the Military so our legal citizens can live in a peaceful society without crime and corruption. Some but not all Illegals bring in crime. Lets put a stop to it.
