Citing an unnamed "official" who purportedly attended John McCain's recent Baghdad news conference, Matt Drudge ran with a story in an attempt to discredit CNN reporter Michael Ware. Like many on the right, one of the Stump's own bloggers bit that bait and vented his outrage. Patrick Casey wondered aloud if CNN would hold Ware to account for his actions. Well, as a matter of fact, Soledad O'Brien did bring up the issue with Ware. Here's the result.
Of course, one might suspect that Ware is making the episode look better for himself than it actually may have been. But where are the quotes from McCain himself (let alone from anyone with an actual name) claiming that he was heckled by the reporter? You won't find them. The reason? There was no heckling. No shouting, no interruptions. In fact, you can view the McCain press conference here. No, the real story remains McCain's hopelessly staged Baghdad stroll. I guess that news item isn't as much fun for the right as taking yet another tired swing at the dreaded main stream media.Previously on 'The Stump':

1. The media is trashing McCain today and for the most part it has nothing to do with Iraq: http://www.solidpolitics.com

2. Id hate to say it....but when they can go out in public and not worry about being assassinated or being blown up with or without security. Duh thats a sign of improvement. I mean shit everytime they've gone there in the past theres been assassination attempts.
But what do I know some jerk for CNN who obviously hasn't been there as much as I have can do what he calls mock McCain by laughing at him. Thats not mocking someone.....
And I think McCain a man who spent 5 yrs in Hanoi Hilton would know BAD conditions lol.

3. Dear Jon Mr Waer has been in Iraq for 4 years. You missed the whole point of the post or chose to ignore it . Its about the right wing media like Drudge and the pill popping rush. Who lied about the news conference

4. I live in Arizona, and have always respected John McCain. He was always honest, but since running for President he has turned into the people he used to hate. He knows damn well things aren't getting better in Iraq, and he says things he knows are not true. John, you have sold out and we, your constituents, deserve better. You have been corrupted and no longer have our suppport.

5. Exactly, Bob.. CNN's Michael Ware has been in Iraq since the beginning of the war, Sen. McCain has not. It turns out Michael Ware did not heckle McCain at a news conference. Mr. Ware did say Mr. McCain's remarks about the "safety" surprised him...McCain at this point is just carrying the water for Bush...and it is a sinking ship.

6. With CNN's record of falsehood's, they probably put Ware up to it.

10. It's funny how it's "too soon" to say the "surge" ISN'T working, but NOT too soon to say it is. Bushite logic.

11. Same ole, same ole crap. Politicians playing partisan politics. Politically motivated messages. Republicans trying to come up with anything to support the war. Mcain saying that he thinks the American people do not get to hear about the good happening in Iraq (I'm afraid that would be much too little, if any, at much too high a price, Mr. Mcain). The right wing dubbing the media as left wing. Listen. Let's thank God that the media reports the facts to us. I mean, no wonder the right can't stand the media. Now. . . . let's talk facts. Ware did not heckle Mcain (watch the briefing), Ware has seen first hand since the beginning of the war what goes on there, Mcain has not, Mcain and his delegation were under the tightest security possible, including closing off the market to all vehicle traffic. This is better? If so (and I don't buy it), so what? Better than what? And for how long? Until the insurgents decide to go after the market to prove a point now that Mcain and his band of delusionists have declared how wonderful it was to safely stroll through the market? If and when the next attack happens on Shorja, I guess Mcain will have to wonder if it was his political game that cost the lives of the Iraqis killed.

12. The McCain "Straight Toking Express" has fallen off the "campaign" expressway bridge. His self serving "rhetorical rampage" will, thankfully, relegate him to the political dung heap of past Presidential aspirants, he so greatly deserves.

14. Wow, what a collection of idiots. I'm not talking about the "Bushite" GOP. I'm talking about you liberals on this message board. Seriously. Between 'Linda's' denials of the left-wing bias in the MSM, and ran504 remarking that McCain knows 'damn well' about Iraqi security concerns, I had to hold my head and laugh. You folks don't have much of a clue, so let me try to provide one. Things in Iraq are shitballed. We all know that. In small increments, in different parts of the country, things are getting better or worse. Let's remember, there are many places in Iraq that have seen little or no violence since the 2003 invasion. Of course, there are also places that have been bombed to the ground by terrorists and insurgents. But for those of you cheering for defeat, claiming that victory is impossible, let's remember that if you put your heart in something, it's never impossible. The terrorists are emboldened every time an American or European politico makes a speech against the war. Since we cannot control what they're saying over in gay Paree or Berlin, wouldn't it be a better idea to support the war in America and present a united front? While we'll probably never know (since the Treason Left will never agree), I think a united front here in America would serve to weaken the resolve of the insurgents. Of course, since we'll never know, nobody can prove me right or wrong on that, but I think it's worth a shot.

15. John McCain certainly felt safer with all the protection HE was awarded in Iraq. Too bad our "common" soldiers don't have the same protections awarded him. Certainly there would be a lot less wasted lives. Our children, the Republican party's sacrificial lambs. Unfortunately, they have no problem sacrificing our family members. Too many lies, too much deceit. It's time for the Republicans to hit the road (and don't come back no more).
