Citing an unnamed "official" who purportedly attended John McCain's recent Baghdad news conference, Matt Drudge ran with a story in an attempt to discredit CNN reporter Michael Ware. Like many on the right, one of the Stump's own bloggers bit that bait and vented his outrage. Patrick Casey wondered aloud if CNN would hold Ware to account for his actions. Well, as a matter of fact, Soledad O'Brien did bring up the issue with Ware. Here's the result.
Of course, one might suspect that Ware is making the episode look better for himself than it actually may have been. But where are the quotes from McCain himself (let alone from anyone with an actual name) claiming that he was heckled by the reporter? You won't find them. The reason? There was no heckling. No shouting, no interruptions. In fact, you can view the McCain press conference here. No, the real story remains McCain's hopelessly staged Baghdad stroll. I guess that news item isn't as much fun for the right as taking yet another tired swing at the dreaded main stream media.Previously on 'The Stump':

16. Of course McCain saw things as safe. If I had the military close off all traffic for blocks around, deploy helicopters circling overhead, been given body armor, and had a small army to walk me through every place I went, I would feel pretty secure myself

18. McCain had as much protection in Iraq as chicken George has daily, (the most protected President in our History). The straight talk express seems to have some curves as of late. Is McCain for the war or against it. If is elected will we be Iraq for one year, two years, ten years or more. He has stated we will stay there until the job is done. That could be forever. What is his goal? How many more americans must die before he will bring our troops home.
