Nice scoop by MyDD.com, who have John Kerry on tape saying that political handlers for John McCain approached him regarding the possibility of the senator from Arizona joining the Democratic presidential ticket. This news comes on the heels of reports that John McCain apparently approached Sen. Tom Daschle in 2001 about caucusing with Senate Democrats, wresting control of the chamber away from the GOP (Jim Jeffords beat him to the punch).
The senator's presidential campaign is already reeling from disappointing fundraising numbers for the first quarter. His biggest strength is that he has a huge number of small dollar donors, many of whom probably won't mind that he flirted with crossing the aisle. But as these reports go public, the big money in the GOP will turn off even more.
At this point, Senator John McCain's only remaining path to the presidency may well be as a third party or independent candidate. It's got to be an option his advisors are weighing.

16. I am a liberal Democrat. I like McCain and wish that he could turn current public opinion about him around. Of all the candidates, he is the most qualified, the least full of shit, he shows the basic principles and morals that are absent in so many, and he is pretty mid-line politically. What better could we get given the current options. His age works with experience. He is the lesser of all evils. I wish him the best of luck.

17. McCain is probably a decent person who ended up looking like he compromised his principles with Bush, and everyone knows what appearances mean these days. He will pay the political price for that, as well he should. We are sick of Bush and want no more of him for the next Presidential election.

18. I am really impressed with any and everything Kerry has to say!! Just like I would be if his name was still HANOI JANE- HE IS THE EPITOME OF A TRAITOR.I WILL NEVER FORGET WHAT THAT TRAITOR DID TO OUR SOLDIERS IN VIETNAM. KERRY ALONG WITH KENNEDY SOLD OUT OUR SOLDIERS - KEEP IN MIND THAT THIS WAS AFTER kennedy VOTED FOR HIS BROTHER JFK TO DRAFT AND SEND OUT TROOPS INTO VIETNAM TO FIGHT - THIS WAS BEFORE THEY SOLD THEM OUT!!! LEAVING MANY TO FEND FOR THEMSELVES. I WILL NEVER COMPREHEND IN MY LIFE TIME WHY SOMEONE WOULD VOTE FOR SUCH TRAITORS, AND BOTH FROM MASS. THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN TRIED FOR TREASON. STILL SHOULD.

19. Ohio State's coach should have put someone in the game who could make a 3 pointer, and Ohio State would have won the game. Isn't armchair coaching easy? We aren't told what the President is told, and we don't know what he knows. It is easy for us to coach the Presidency. I wouldn't have his job for a million dollars a year. What I do know is that Iran is using the words "bad behavior" toward the British to make them look small in the eyes of the world. They are words we would use to correct a child. If the British cower down to Iran, they will surely pay later. We have not been attacked because the enemy knows they have us where they want us. We are cowering over the shedding of blood in Iraq, and they don't want to infuriate us right now. Once we leave Iraq the gloves will be off, and they will come here. Their cell groups are already here. They are working as taxi drivers, students, teachers and restaurant workers all over America. They are only awaiting orders, and then we will realize that we have made a grave mistake not supporting our President.

20. Congressmen who willfully take actions during wartime that damage morale and undermine the military are saboteurs and should be arrested, exiled or hanged.

24. John McCain is so desperate to be president that he has lost his dignity and become a common liar. Long ago I used to admire him because he had fooled me into believing that he was a man of integrity and character. But after he went and kissed Bush on television I realized that he is just !a senile old man who thinks that he one day can be president. How sad!

25. It's amazing that McCain is considered a GOP moderate. His votes during Bush's tenure has been with him about 95% of the time. Like Bush, McCain is pro-corporate, pro-war, and has been a co-sponsor of that horrible Military Commissions Act. McCain doesn't even really have a military career to boast about, in that he was a POW most of the time.
If you like intransient, but less arrogant right-wingers you need look no further than McCain, a true Republican skunk (stinko)!

26. John McCain is a has been wannabe; at one time he was, I think, both principled and honourable, but has been swimming in the DC cesspool much, much too long. Kerry is a globalista, but has the grace not to lie about it. Reagan, for all his shortcomings, was an American, badly served by those upon whom he counted, i.e. 'his' executive order which folded the American Red Cross into FEMA, established 'relocation camps' and made everything and everyone escheat to the federal governement, as one option, in the event of 'a declared national emergency.' Reagan undoubtedly signed the wretched thing, but certainly didn't craft it. During the 30 days interim, in which Congress has the option to review EOs once published in the Federal Register and refuse to accept them when appropriate, where was Congress? Out strutting around pretending to be more than the pathetic gasbags they are. Reagan was not a stupid man intellectually, but allowed people who should not have to acquire some truly harmful ascendency over him in his office, which displays no logic whatsoever, but did occur. I rather suspect that he was the one in DC who recognized a Cuban takeover of Grenada as the 'cork in the bottle' of oil tanker routes between the Gulf ports and the oil terminals of southcetral and South American, and seized upon the American medical students as a cover for the Grenada Expedition to ensure that the tanker routes would not be interdicted. Now, of course, Red China and The People's Liberation Army are much in favour and carressed by the Grenada government.
Bobby Kennedy. Um. The kid had a head and heart virtually identical to John's, but I think he lacked some indefinable quality that John had. He may have been a fine President, mindful, as was John, of the obligations of honour which come with the office and are so often dropped at curbside just before the President Elect takes his oath of loyalty and office. It may be that Bobby, unlike John, had not served in combat and acquired that particular outlook and quality of perception which so often becomes a portion of the fabric of those who have engaged in active combat but is not present in the civilian masses and REMFs who've not been the target of 'the odd angry shot.' We'll never know, now. What a shame.

27. I agree that McCain is probably past his prime for this job...I disagree that Reagan was...but the really sad part about Kerry is that he is clinging, grasping...what kind of man says "McCain asked him to run with him"..honestly, Kerry is a loser..we all know that despite the fact that he keeps popping up like a bad penny. McCain is legit, just not Presidential material...Hillary and Gore are a joke...so, where do we look now?

28. I have always seen McCain has a maverick, but seeking to be on a Democratic ticket-that is wild.
But which of us do not at sometime change our minds, yet realizing what the consequences could mean.
For McCain this could mean the end of his quest to be president, a lifetime goal. I wait to see what happens.
