Today is May Day, historically when immigration supporters rally and march in support of lessening restrictions on immigration. It appears as though those numbers are dwindling:

Dozens? Those numbers are really small. The AP piece is typical open borders, give them citizenship fluff, but those numbers speak volumes (note this Reuters headline that can't deny the truth). The climate in America has changed and this is one issue the Republican's own. Everyone in America comes from immigrants, that's true. But most came here legally and not only waited for their citizenship, but assimilated into the fabric of our nation.From Phoenix to Detroit, hundreds of people carried American flags in the streets.
...Hours before the march was set to begin in Chicago, dozens of demonstrators began arriving carrying American flags, signs and placards, including one that read "We may not have it all together, but together we can have it all."
With the exception of Tom Tancredo and Duncan Hunter, the GOP field has been wary of entering into this very important debate. President Bush himself has hedged and has lost support of a lot Republican's because of it.
We need real immigration reform and we need it now. Real reform does not offer amnesty nor reward those who've broken the law. It does provide funding for real border security and it provides for consequences if you cross illegally. Reform also requires the U.S. to take a firmer stance with Mexico and calling for economic sanctions if they don't stem the flow.
I know they are just seeking a better life and money to support their families. I feel for them and wish their own leaders would provide them more opportunity. I believe in immigration if it's legal imigration where taxes are paid for services provided. I'm 100% against illegal immigration.

61. My last comment on this matter. I have decided that I would not buy any product that contains instructions or bears any writing other than "English" on their product. The same goes for malls and stores that use foreign language over loudspeakers. This is America, accept it or leave it.

67. well...i don't know what so big about these marches. if they are ILLEGAL - then they know they have no VOTE or RIGHT to voices their opinion. hey, now if they are here LEGALLY - then yes, but this a process that these people do not realize. to say they have been here 10+ years and have kids who were born here - well, until that child is old enough to sponsor its parents, then parents and child will have to go home to their home country and go thru the process legally. i have friends who went thru it legally and did not see their father for 6 years, the mom for 3 years so both parents can bring kids into America legally. the process is long and very hard on families, but they(my friends parents) thought it is worth the effort. why can't they do the same. how would people in line for American citizenship feel if the people who BROKE THE LAW all of a sudden gets a freebie that they(legal applicants) have been trying to do and get? what is their rights? abide by the laws then you would not have to worry. break the law, and you need to go back to your country. as for doing the jobs that "Americans" don't do - that is full of hogwash!!

68. Jean; I am very serious about what I said, I will check everything I buy, and if I find more than English on the article I wont purchase it, and if I buy it and find the same, I will return it. Since when do we have to change our language to suit others? Corporations will do anything for a buck.

69. I think this is probably a touchy subject across the map of race. We as Americans are a proud nation. Understandably immigrants want to join us in the life of freedom we live. Lets backtrack that last statement. Join us, don’t just come over here thinking that you are going to take over. This is the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, not the united states of Mexico. Show us some respect. I do believe in equal rights and I do believe in LEGAL immigration. Just don’t come here and expect to just speak your language you are in our country. Not vice versa. Learning how to speak the language should be involved in citizenship. The problem we have is the ILLEGALS get in our country and don’t follow the rules. “ Its not just them” , I can hear you now. Uhh, yes it is. That’s why most of the gang crime isn’t white on black, black on black, or white on white. Read between the lines. Military time should also be involved. Show us how much you want to be here. Join the military. Fight for the country you want to live in. I did. My ancestors did also. It is not as simple as that, but it’s a start in the right direction. One last statement, teach your children to respect where they are. Nothing pissed me off more than seeing that school in southern California let them misguided IGNROANT MORANS drop our flag and put the Mexican flag above an upside down American flag. 70. Send the illegal aliens home. They have no right to stay in our country, to get free medical care,to get HUD housing ahead of our own citizens, to get food stamps, and to make many demands. Immigrants who come here legally want to learn English and make no demands because they are happy to be in a free country. These illegal immigrants make demands and want to change our laws, make Spanish our national language, fly our flag upside down, bash our President, and upset our country. We have the best country in the universe, but we must protect it from the illegal aliens. Our troops are fighting to protect us and many show the wounds of a terrible war. When our military return home, they do not get the special privileges afforded the illegal aliens. These aliens want to live in a free country, but they have not earned the right to live here. Send them to Iraq to fight if they want to become a citizen or send them home where they belong. They are not an asset to our beloved country. The presence of the illegals are costing the taxpayers billions of dollars. We must stop the invasion by the illegals. I am appalled that the great leaders of our country are letting this happen. Why are we fools to let this continue? Send them home, or send them to Iraq to fight for our country and to earn the privilege to live here. NO AMNESTY.

71. #70 to bad kg - my husband is here LEGALLY. his mother did their paperwork. and illegals do not do jobs Americans don't want to do. they give companies the ability to undercut the wages paid to Americans. my husband works in the construction trade and that is the worst undercutting paying job now. my husband made $20 in 1990, and now in 2007 - the contractors want to pay him $14-$18 dollars an hour? why? cause their is someone who is willing to do it for less than what my husband is due with his skills, knowledge and years in the trade. so do i feel sorry for you? no i don't! my husband pays taxes under his own social security number and we aren't allowed any freebies!

72. I'm serious too, I have already switched brands of the same produce when I found the company is printing the other languages. I don't like the other brands, and some of my favorites I won't use anymore. But I also, called the companies and told them I was switching. I did some research and found out they are "reaching out" to the (illegal) market on their websites. It's my small protest, but it's one I'm using. I am sick of realizing I lost my country to hostile, anti-Americans, thumbing their noses at us and flaunting their foreign flags in our faces! It really does make me angry.

The only way to stop illegals is to use force, u should of shot em with real bullets an rounded them up n shipped em back, hunt for the millions that are here an do the same, an we need to completly seal the border and if anyone tries kill them, just as if i was to enter area-51. The negative to that is that the illegals already here get hired by companies, coorprate america, so there very well could be economic impact. (1 BIG PAIN IN THE ASS)

I urge everyone to contact all the presidential cndidates and tell them you will not support them if they tolerate illegal immigration and amnesty. I pulled my support for Obama (who I like on other issues) and sent money to Tancredo. Contact them all.
