Amazing. During last night's Republican debate, three candidates signaled that they did not believe in the theory of evolution. Mike Huckabee, Tom Tancredo, and Sam Brownback. John McCain himself, who was initially asked the question, seemed almost hestitant to endorse what is perhaps the most robust scientific theory of our age. You might as well say you don't believe that planes can fly. Watch.
Of course, evolution itself is not incompatible with a belief in God, as some would have you think. But it certainly doesn't square with a literalist interpretation of the Bible. One wonders how each candidate would respond in full to this question, and whether it's the last we'll hear of it.

16. Hey Grant,
That is exactly the ignorance that I was speaking of...if you want to stereotype someone, I believe you just provided a pretty common stereotype of the redneck.

17. I also do not believe in the theory of evolution. I do not like to call people dumb, studpid or ignorant because Iam still learning myself. The Bible says that he who thinks he knows doesn't know like he ought to know. But don't be stupid !! If man came by way of the monkey, some monkey should be turning into a man about now ! To be fair, I would even say a thousand years ago , a hundred years ago.The same evolution process should still be happening ! Adam and Eve gave birth to children, birth is still happening ! Look around and see the same things that's been happening for ages. God created the world , man and woman and made them too give birth. People, read your Bibles ! Don't make yourself look dump, stupid or ignorant by trying to be smarter than God !

18. The question is not whether evolution takes place, the question is whethter or not you believe in a Creator vs no creator. The Creator (God), if you will, is omnipident and all knowing capable of creting light and the entire universe. Evolution was a cinch for this God. Man is the big problem just read your newspaper and look around you. Do you really like what you see?

19. EVOLUTION IS NOT GOD'S METHOD, THE EVOLUTION THEORY CRAP CAN IN NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM BE COMPARED TO GOD!!!! IF YOU WANT PROOF, READ THE BIBLE NO WHERE IN IT DOES IT SAY THAT WE CAME FROM MONKEYS, FISH OR ANY OTHER NON-HUMAN CREATURE. WE CAME FROM ADAM AND EVE, ADAM WAS MADE IN THE LIKE-NESS OF GOD!!! SO LETS STOP SAYING THAT GOD AND EVOLUTION GO HAND AND HAND BECAUSE THEY MOST CERTAINLY DO NOT!!

20. Not wanting to be a man who doesn't check things out for himself. I decided to take a look at Darwin's book The origin of the species by means of natural selection, the preservation of favored races in the struggle for life. That is the complete title as published in 1859. Looking further I read that Darwin admits in a Creator, but is it the God of the bible, or has Darwin created a graven image of God in his own mind to suit himself. When I read that Darwin said, I am paraphrasing. The eye as comlex as it is I must admit would be impossible to evolve by natural selection, nevertheless.... What is Darwin actually saying? He says the eye with its millions of nerves would be impossible to evolve by natural selection. Yet he compeles himself to not believe the fact and continue on with his wrong thinking. I am willing to show whoever asks the page on which I located Darwin's comments about the eye and the Creator that way you can read it for yourself and judge for yourself. God created each and everyperson in His image. In the image of God He created them male and female.

21. Evolution is not a scientific theory because:1) It is not based on any observed zoological or biological events or phenomena. 2) There is no way of testing the process of biological or zoological evolution. 3) No fossil recoveries have ever proven that a species has evolved from another species. Therefore, "Evolution" is in the realm of philosophy, or it is a Faith or a religion.

22. Who cares how many different ideas surround evolution and how many missing links there are... it still doesn't change the fact that the Bible is a work of FICTION written by MEN. It actually chills me to the bone with fear when I read the posts of people who STILL believe God is going to come back and judge us when there IS NO GOD. Delusional. Brain-washed. SCARY. And yes the white man has a proven track record of Stupidity, Brutality, Prejudice, Arrogance... shall I go on. Powhatan here.

23. Thanks to Brian and Sean for bringing some logic into the question.
I'm tired of those with more *faith* than myself assuming that if you have a mind you must believe in macro evolution.
The jumps in logical thinking which must be made to wholeheartedly support that long-time, media-honored theory in the face of the astonishing lack of real evidence, are too great a distance for this mind.
Time for the rest of the world to regard the ever-popular Discover Channel as the science-fiction that it is, read for yourself how many of the *proofs* of macro evolution which appear in the textbooks we all enjoyed in gradeschool have since been scientifically de-bunked. Come, my children, into the twenty-first century...leave your old, muddied scientific beliefs behind...open your minds to the facts. (In regard to that, don't let your assumptions define your evidence.)

24. To the Sioux Indian---I recently read Vine Deloria's RED EARTH, WHITE LIES....He's no fundamentalist, but he ridicules Western science and seems unconvinced of the certainty of some evolutionary claims. So it's not just the "young earthers."...
For everyone else: As for the theory of evolution--there are some aspects of the biblical story that could as easily go along with it. But evolution also does not account for the statistical likelihood that some things--on the biochemical level, for instance--could have been completely done by random chance. That's why some of us opt instead for "intelligent design."

25. Anyone who discounts such solid scientific evidence
in preference to the "gospil" written in a book that was devised by, and written by, and edited (censored) by, and then interperted by, men two thousand years ago is not far enough removed from the "dark ages" to govern anyone.
It is this same manner of thought (or rather lack of) that perpetuates the insanity which is the middle East.

26. Yikes. This is scary.

27. Since evolution has no facts to bolster its claims, it remains a theory and always will. Soft tissue on a 65,000,000 year old TREX? I don't think so.

28. I find it funny how people will blindly believe a man who tells them what happens to when we die. How do they know? They haven't died yet! God is a figment of imagination that helps people live life and give meaning to it. If it works for you, great, but to say that God is Fact, or that the Bible is Fact it so wrong I cringe when I read it. Fact is something that can be proven. The existence of God has never been proven, the stories in the bible have never been proven to be true. Therefore, creationism is a THEORY just like evolution is a THEORY. However, there is more evidence that SUPPORTS the thoery of evolution. What do humans have that support the theory of creationsim? A book that was written eons ago.

29. Scientific evidence for creation abounds in areas of objective observation. Scholars in various scientific disciplines have written about the incredible complexity in living systems and the structure of the universe. This complexity is beyond the possibility of natural development

30. Evolution was a theory...later recanted...to attempt to explain life. Evolution DOES NOT WORK. The study of cosmology (the universe) shows how finely tuned and balanced the galaxy and our solar system are to support life. The mathmatical analysis alone provides numerical data far too precise to be an accident. Likewise, countless living systems demonstrate the concepts of irreducible complexity, meaning that they have integral parts within them that could not have evolved to the point where they are. If the systems were not in place as they are, fully functioning, the organism could not and would not survive. Evolution is an attempt to make man supreme and eliminate God. It is hopelessly useless to explaine the mind boggling diversity and complexity of life on this planet. Quite frankly, it takes FAR more faith to believe in the utterly random accidents and happenstance of evolution than it does to believe in a creator God. "The earth declares the glory of the Lord, and the heavens display His handiwork..."
