"As for the one Mormon running for office, those who really believe in God will defeat him anyways, so don't worry about that; that's a temporary situation."This remark came in a debate at the New York public library with none other than Christopher Hitchens, who is currently making the rounds to promote his new book, God is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything. Given Sharpton's remark, I'd have to give that debate point to Hitchens.
I might humbly suggest that our culture of jabber is really what's wrong with the likes of Imus, Sharpton, Limbaugh and the rest. When one engages in a constant stream of words pouring from the mouth, it is inevitable that regrettable statements will flow forth. As for Romney, of course he believes in God, and Sharpton later took pains to correct himself, albeit in revisionist fashion:
"What I said was that we would defeat him, meaning as a Republican. A Mormon, by definition, believes in God. They don't believe in God the way I do, but by definition, they believe in God."Oy vey. I need a drink. Care to join me, Mr. Hitchens?

1. Is it bullying or bigotry or a load of both?
It sounds like a typical remark from a rival
If one can’t give a logical comeback
they every often resort to some of the old
standbys that like God have nothing to
do with reality. If religious people really
believed in God they
wouldn't disagree with who or what he is.
The problem is
People of religion like people of the courts
have a tendency to interpret doctrine
and the laws they by what suits
them the most.

4. in regard to the irREVerent Mr. Sharpton I cannot ever remember agreeing with him. I do, however, agree with his statement regarding Mitt Romney's god.
Mormons theological stance portrays Jesus as a created angel rather than God incarnate. Read John 1 where God's word states Jesus [The Word] "--made all things--" Mormonism is regarded as a cult by most all evangelical Christians.

5. I never have thought Al Sharpton was a minister so any comments he makes about someone doesn't surprise me. I think he is someone that wants to make a living off of other people without working for it. A real man of God would not do the kinds of things he does.

6. i don't know why romney would even give sharpton the time of day. i don't care for the mormon religion, but the point should be - one of America's rights is "freedom of religion", that is what romney should have reminded sharpton of.

7. freddieep as far as your comments about Mormons please do some research before you make any comments. We do not beleive that Jesus is an angel any more than I am or you are. Leave the religion part out of the debates and everything will be fine.
Pray to God but keep rowing to shore...

8. Al Sharpton is the biggest racist known to man. His opinion is always slanted and religion to him comes with a dollar sign attached to it. He is an embarassment to all African Americans.

9. Sharpton is an opportunist whose track record gives him a total lack of credibility.
Tawana Brawley, Crown Heights riots, Freddys Fashion Mart and "white interlopers", spokesman for LoanMax (accused of predatory lending practices), rush to judge the Duke lacrosse players.
I challenge Al to show one instance from his history where he has been constructive.

11. Sharpton is a hypocritical leech feeding off his followers hiding behind the cloak of religion. Where is the press regarding these remarks? Where are the polls asking us what we thinkl of Sharpton's remarks? We have a double standard in this country when we are referring to certain miniorities.

12. Sharpton is a bigot and doesn't see it . . . he does feel it as this is his inner fuel and passion.
To avoid racism, you do not focus on it daily to keep it around, you only hav people in your life who add to the quality of what you wish your life to be. "Free-will" is choosing to be who you are by 'wht yo lok at 'moment-by-moment'.

13. Questions: When is a crowd of angry citizens going to march and protest AGAINST this racist buffoon? How much longer will talk shows have this "reverend" as a guest expert on anything? Why give credence to what this man says? He became rich from doing what? Charity and good works for his community? Noooo - from screaming "racist" at any opportunity, stirring up people, collecting funds from that same poor population to continue his egotistical activities, all while wearing a Rolex. Give us a break!

14. Sharpton should immediatly RESIGN for his Racist, anit mormon bigoted comments. If this is the kind of Racist garbage he says in public, I would hate to hear what goes on behind closed doors when he is talking to Farhkann and Nation of Islam and all the other Anti European Amercian forces in academia and mainstream meadia. Why is this story not on every TV news show, national papers and nite time talk shows? Where are all the people t hat wanted to lynch Don Imus now?
