Soon there will be four real Republican candidates for the Republican nomination for president in 2008. This is especially clear after last night, when Mitt Romney, Rudy Giuliani and John McCain rose above the rest, in both performance and style.

It's also clear that for the foreseeable future the immigration question, not Iraq, is going to be the focus of attention for Republican primary voters.

Also of note, the Republican political consulting and polling firm of McLaughlin & Associates released their latest poll conducted for Citizen's United yesterday showing that Rudy maintains his lead for the Republican nomination with 24% (-4 from their previous poll), with Fred Thompson moving up to second place with 18% (+5), John McCain in third with 17% (+1), Mitt Romney in fourth with 7% (-1), and Newt Gingrich in fifth with 5% (-1). 26% of probable primary voters remain undecided.
