The mainstream media woke up to the fact that while Fred Thompson played a district attorney on TV, he was working as a corporate shill as a D.C. lobbyist. USA Today wrote up a great story about how Thompson's corporate lobbying career could hurt him in his race. Given that corruption was the number one issue in the 2006 elections, you'd have to be brain-dead (or a quintessential Washington insider) to think a lobbyist could run for president with no questions from the public.
Hilariously, Mr. Thompson is now defending his shilling, saying that lobbying "an honorable endeavor that goes back to the beginnings of this republic." Look, just 'cause it's one of the oldest professions doesn't mean it's one of the noblest.
As if it couldn't get any sadder, it's becoming clear that this man doesn't understand he's not on contract with his corporate backers any more. He's already declared that his keystone policy proposal for his presidential campaign is cutting taxes for corporations. The U.S. has the second lowest effective corporate tax burden of any nation in the world. We've just witnessed seven years of tax cuts for the richest and deficits climbing into the trillions. There's a word for Fred Thompson's proposal. It's hubris. This man is so bought and paid for he thinks working for his corporate masters will pass muster in real America.
I hope you've gotten enough sleep, Fred. Your wake-up call is just about due.

31. "GLAMOROUS"!
GEEZUS!
The fella looks like the neighborhood drunk.
He appears to be extremely unhealthy - likely to excessive food, drink, no exercise, etc.
Oh yeah this glamore-puss will be the messiah.
He will be your next president if Karl Rove has anything to do with t. By other accounts, Rabid Rove is working behind the scenes to market the loser.
A Bush clone.
In the pockets of big money.
Thompson = a further beaten down middle, rapidly becoming, lower class.
Disgusting judge of character if Republican's get behind this lack-luster man.
But, hey!
They have incredibly LOW standards.

32. I agree with #6 lynne, The only Republican worth a consideration would be Ron Paul. All others to include most Democrats appear to be in the same mind set as the present "Moron and Snake" we have for a President and Vice President now. I am a registered Democrat who has voted Republican, and Ron Paul impresses me with his candid personality and distinctive quality when he speaks. But, I feel I might vote for the best Democratic Candidate for fear of another Bush/Cheney. Now that would be devastating to this country and the world.

34. I cannot believe what I am reading here. Are people totally mad? How on Earth does getting a "blow job" in the oval office equate with ANYTHING Dumbya has done? Please...tell me...do you really think it's worse to have sex than to start a war based on thin air, make us the most hated nation in the world, out your own covert operators because of spite, ignore the Constitution, ignore the Geneva Conventions, put Halliburton in charge of the recovery in Iraq (is anyone surprised that a piece of lumber costs 200.00 USD??), push through legislation to remove any liability to drug companies for the fallout of their bad drugs and vaccines, cut taxes for the wealthy (and yes, I can read tax code and yes, the taxes actually benefited only those with a lot of money) and a whole bunch of other bastardish things I don't have the space for?? If you said yes to this, you need therapy and a girl/boyfriend.
As for Thompson? He is a REPUBLICAN. They are ALL the same these days. In order to have survived to this point, he has to owe so many people so many pieces of the American Pie that it's not going to be any different than Bush. What a disaster.
Oh - and to previos posters..Bush did NOT jump start the economy with his ridiculous tax breaks to the rich and richer. The economy is still in crises - where HE and his cronies put it. If you want to believe it's doing better, please research the methods the Republicans use to tabulate their data before you fall all the way in and sink in the putrid depths of their spin. One example? The unemployment rate? Well, Bush and his Posse decided to revamp the data sets to no longer include anyone who has been out of a job so long that they have fallen off of the unemployment rolls because they no longer are allowed benefits. Makes the % much better for them. Now, it's under 5% intead of the 7 or 8% it's closer to.
PLEASE RESEARCH AND DON'T FALL FOR THE PARTY RHETORIC - HAVE A FREAKIN' BRAIN OF YOUR OWN! I know it's a lot to ask -after all, if you are against Bush you are an unpatriotic satan worshipper who is trying to help the terrorists win the war.
Did anyone ever bother to ask WHAT WAR??!! You cannot have a war unless their is a clear enemy. This is like the brilliant WAR ON DRUGS!! Look how well that turned out. And if you think it's gone great? Please get a brain and a backbone. Think for yourself - meaning, do not believe them just because they are on television.
